Come on then, own up, was this you?

I don't want to sound uncharitable but...if you are stupid enough to park your motorhome on a beach then you deserve a nasty shock when you come to renew your insurance. If parking a vehicle on a beach isn't already illegal then it should be.

I can understand parkimng on 'some' beaches when appropriate and keeping safely near the land. Why on earth that MH went so far forwards to the sea I don't get.

Not keen on making things illegal just because of a few stupid people.

So following the little thread drift here - why is a Caravan called a Caravan?

Serious question. Why does it matter?
Well, for a start, Saga will insure motorhomes but not camper vans (regardless of whether they have been professionally converted or not)!

I call my camper, Van, (PVC) we called the 6 birth and 4 birth coach built 'campers',
With ten kids I'd have called them 'Maternity wards'.
;)

A more accurate description, what if your coachbuilt MH was stolen but the Police listed it generically as a campervan (ie just with the original body)... would they look for a 'van' type conversion or a coachbuilt ...
Unless you own a Recreational Vehicle no on knows the difference RV, Motorhome, Campervan are interchangeable to the uninitiated just a view but I suspect that's how it is.

Apparently it was a rental motorcamper.
That'd been an interesting telephone call

I have family that live in Bosham, West Sussex. It is local sport to watch folks park on the waterfront and go for a walk, then see them running back to find their motor underwater as the tide comes in. Usually it just comes up to the bottom of the doors - but sports cars or spring tides can provide additional entertainment. Oh the joys of local knowledge.

Just watched the video of it being dragged out. It's not marked up as a rental, so good news that a business wasn't effected by someones abject stupidity.

I reckon a "caravan" is a car with a van (car a van)

A motorhome is a home with a motor.

I have neither...

I have a Luxury Motorhome... I NEVER go "camping".

"Camping" to me means a tent, lumpy ground and dampness.

Parking on a beach must be pure madness.

you've never had the privilege of a van like mine then

Well that gets into the whole realm of what a 'van' is. Most people wouldn't call what is commonly known as a caravan a 'van' whether is was with a car or without.

To me a campervan is one of those vehicles with a loud sliding door and a loud bang as it is closed.

I'd never drive onto sand, never mind the water 😳

Car parks at Berrow & Brean ARE on the beach 👍🏻 (on the coast south of Weston-Super-Mare)
I guess the sea going out about (seems like) a mile at low tide gives a decent safe zone. You are told not to go park too near the surf 👀

that can't be mine then as my door goes whoospbang twice as I never shut it hard enough the first time

Why can't the reporters learn what is a 'campervan' and what is a 'motorhome'!

Does that matter, in reality of course not and is quite pedantic...but I have to admit that I only ever refer to our PVC as a campervan as they are much cooler, and the image of a 'motorhome' is miles from what we want (even though we did make the error of owning a coachbuilt for six months - soon realised it's not for our type of touring).

People who go to campsites must by definition go in campers, surely?

Only those of us who avoid such places can call our 'mobile hotels' motorhomes. ;) ;) Even then only if they are 'A' Class

Geoff ('A' Class snotty snob)

[Anyway in Poland they are all 'campers' as there is no Polish word for 'motorhome']

To me a campervan is really for more hardened campers. You cannot really live IN it. Yes you can sleep, cook, travel but most of your living is done outside.

Motorhomes are more livable inside sue to proper space, toilet, shower, cooker, lounge space.

So really it comes down to size.
