MH
Fiat Ducato Mooveo
Bought our first MH in June 23 a Fiat 2009 Ducato, we’ve been away quite a bit in the short time we’ve had with no real problems. It came with MOT & full service.
Yesterday while picking it up from storage and driving back o
i noticed the clutch pedal wouldn’t come back up, not all the time but a few times. I had to ‘flick’ it back up while driving. Concerned I phoned a mate up and he had a look, and a drive and yes you’ve guessed it absolutely worked fine.
This morning I turned the engine on to move the van and the clutch pedal just went down all by its self!!! Again a quick flick of my foot brought it back up.
Can anyone give me some advice as to what’s happening and how to resolve this?
Cheers.

The clutch and brake share a master cylinder, if the pedal went down on starting the engine I would start by looking for any relationship with the brake servo.

However, there are a few people on the forum who have had the same experience so you may get a better idea from them.

Happened to mine back in February mechanic said either master cylinder or slave cylinder unfortunately it was slave cylinder so gearbox out and new slave cylinder and clutch very costly

I would agree it's likely to be a failing slave cylinder. I had exactly those symptoms on mine.
It will work intermittently but will fail eventually.
It may get you home if you are away.
As mentioned the slave cylinder is mounted coaxially with the first motion shaft in the bell housing so yes it's a gearbox off job to replace it.
Of course it could just need a fluid top up and bleed. I hope this is the case.
My job cost about £900. Mainly labour
Cost of parts was only about £100.
I did not have any replacement clutch parts since the friction plate looked fine but this may also be worth considering.

Same here and it's been like that for the seven years I've had it. .In my case it happens about one in 100 uses of the pedal. I have no idea why and apparently no one else I've asked about it has either.

Due to go to Devon tomorrow, we’ve spent quite a bit of money on this trip. Reckon we’ll be ok? I’ve bought some dot4 and will regularly check. Other than that I am in the hand of the gods…
