Saw a similar post to this - it happened yesterday.
My car broke down yesterday so used MH to get to work which then broke down jyst off a motorway. The pedal was flat to the floor but wouldn’t rise. Having phoned the police and AA it resumed function and I drove a couple of miles to work. I’m now stuck 30 miles from home.
Do I risk the motorway home, try to get it towed or is there a trick I can use to hobble to my local garage? TIA

There is a thread here

And another here

Sounds like the clutch cylinder in the gearbox 😐
Gearbox out job to fix!
If you can put your foot under the pedal and try and raise it you may be able to drive it!
I drove my pvc 5 miles to the garage when it happened to me. I started it in gear and stalled it at traffic lights as I couldn’t raise the pedal 😳

And another here
Thank you

This is the bit. The o ring failed where pointed by a stick. It happened in France.
Cost €2900 to have repaired. Waited 5 days in garage yard until they could do it.

As they will have the gearbox out it might be prudent to put a new clutch kit in if you’ve not had a new one recently 😐
Add £300 for parts tho!, if you buy a decent clutch kit it will come with a clutch cylinder and release bearing and clutch plate👍😁😎

I had a similar problem on my 2006 Boxer.

It was when I had taken the van out for a drive this time last year. The next outing was for its MOT. The van drove fine on the way there, I mentioned it to the garage, they couldn’t replicate the fault and I have had no issues since.
The likely cause? Having the heating blasting downwards apparently 🤷‍♀️

Are you still stranded?
Similar thing happened to my 2011 ducato last year.
I was advised to try " self bleed" the clutch.
With the engine and ignition off.
Basically repeatedly press the clutch peddle with your hand by lifting and pressing. After about 30 times pressure came back. Did 50 presses and managed to drive about 200 miles on a French motorway by minimising gear changes.
I hadn't lost a noticeable about of clutch fluid from the reservoir.
Might get you to a garage?
Chris
Good luck.

Could you tie a boot Lace or similar to clutch pedal to raise it back up whilst driving it , not tried my self but should be safe enough. ?
Hope it works out ok for you .

My previous 2007 (x250) lost the clutch pedal. It was sleeting while doing a mountain pass in Switzerland. I wasn't exactly being gentle with it, trying to keep momentum between gear shifts. And I had the foot blowers on maximum heat. I did have the brake fluid changed before the trip. It looked like it had never been done before. The clutch shares the same fluid, but when they flush the brakes, it doesn't really exchange much in the clutch circuit, so I suspect the fluid was still manky and well hydrated. In right hand drive x250s (the x244 might be different), the hot air blower pretty much points at the clutch cylinder. Combined with working it hard, and maybe the altitude too, the clutch started not popping up.

I limped it down the pass to an unplanned campsite spot just on the French side. It was a Friday evening before a bank holiday. So we stayed there until Monday morning when a rescue truck could pick us up. Had the scariest drive ever with the rescue truck driver using two phones at once, while smoking, driving mountain roads using his knees and speeding through villages about 30km/h over the limit.

When the checked it at the garage... it was fine. They couldn't find anything wrong. I drove the rest of the tour for another 3 months, including going over the Alps several more times, and didn't have another issue. But I was being much more gentle. Had the brake fluid flushed again when I got back. Had the van for 2 more years and didn't have the problem again.

just to let you know your van being a 2004 is a 244 model and the have an external clutch slave cylinder so no big cost to change same for the master cylinder you can pull the pedel up with your foot to get you home
