Is there a minimum and maximum number of pitches before you need planning consent.

We'll exempt any number of pitches between one and five. Any more than five and you'll need planning permission.

But, I believe, a provider can obtain additional exemptions from other organisations (e.g. C&CC, CaMC, etc.) thereby being able to provide two, or three, distinctly separated five van sites if they so wished.

They risk losing them all if they do that. If someone has 3 CLs then they are jusy taking the pee and flouting planning rules. If we issue a CL a certificate to someone who already has a CL on adjacent land, then we risk losing our exempting powers altogether.

Yes, such a scenario does seem like a blatant flouting of the intent of exemptions but I understand that some establishments are doing this. 🤷‍♂️

I've seen a few. I certainly wouldn't risk it.

The CL system in this country is superb. I know they are different in many respects, but while Aires on the continent are fast disappearing; we in the UK are fast growing a fantastic network we should be proud of.

If it is abused, all it takes is a few complaints from planning authorities; a stroke of a pen from some MP adding restrictions/amendments to some act and bang, our exemptions could be gone.

And don't expect the big clubs to make too much of a fuss or lobby about it either.

Slight thread drift - is there a list of MHF CLs? Or are they just found by browsing the usual site search type website/apps?

Right now we have around 110, there is a facility being built here to display them, and hopefully soon you'll also be able to search for them on Search4sites app

Thanks. I keep vaguely looking here for a list but not finding it. I'm assuming that many are already on search4sites, just not with a specific filter, so under the generic "small and friendly".

I know of 3 in Norfolk that have 2 separately listed CL's for 5 vans, on the same owners land and a few hundred yards from each other. It must be obvious to the Caravan Club.

I am sure that those who 'cross the line' on this issue also do so on many other things. Similarly i am sure there are some who have each field operated by a different person in the family to get round the rules.

i am with Jim on this, why do people feel the need to abuse relaxation in a law at the risk of it being 'unrelaxed'?

I’ve come across quite a few CLs next to small commercial sites. Sometimes not always clear which site you are booking! Also a site in Rutland that has both a CS and a CL in their grounds. The CL has three lodges at one end of it. Be difficult to say they are separate from the CL

Perhaps they need the income. 🤷‍♂️

Is there a specific criterion to qualify a piece of land as a CL, or can you simply put up a sign.
