Yes, if you want professional quality.
Domestic/DIY quality is adequate for our needs.

Zip up tower
Scaffolding tower can be very expensive. One of these would be much cheaper, not to mention burning off those calories.

Don't most motorhomes come with a pre attached ladder on the back?

No, but even if they did, the only way to clean the roof, would be to get on it, something a lot of people don't want to do

We use an old pair of slippers to protect the van from the ends of the ladder! !

Think I'll take up stiltwalking then hire myself out as a Motorhome roof cleaner !!

I feel very fortunate after reading this post, I have a flat roof extension on my house that just happens to be the same height as my van. My ladder needs no protection, as I just use it to climb up on to the flat roof with my hose, bucket and soft bristle broom and work in complete safety from the flat roof ;-)

Nice though cleaning is made much simple with that brush.

I assume people take the ladder with them on tour so that they can impress others with what a clean roof they have

A clean roof is a bit like a clean bum. Nobody sees it but you feel that much better. ;)
My roof hasn't been washed in 9 years... I came to the conclusion that within a few days of washing it, it looks dirty again. But if you leave it long enough it never looks any dirtier week on week.
After 9 years my roof doesn't look any worse than it did 7 years ago :p

I hope you don’t apply the same principle to your yourself, Gromett. Might explain your shortage of mates! :giggle:

I use an old coat, put the ends of the ladder in the sleeves the back of the coat against the van job done.

Not nice and not funny...
Come on Gromett you’ve lost the art of banter. You should have said:

‘Oh no, I always wear two deodorants at a time. But that’s just my two scents’. :D2

Or you could get one of these, currently on Ebay at a reasonable price. Here

Andrew
That looks like it cant be configured to get close to the van comfortably, so useless for fitting a solar panel or cleaning vents etc from the outside.
I bought a £300 mobile tower which would do for those jobs much better.

Just turn it sideways and don't use the stabiliser nearest the van.

That gets you as close as you want to get, and there's a platform on the top so you just face the way you want to work.
