Be aware! It’s not just London that charges. We received a £60 penalty notice(plus the £10 charge) for entering a clean air zone… we had absolutely no idea we had been in one until we received the charge in the post.
Apparently Sheffield is raking in a fortune.. they’ve made £2million pound in charges and fines since February!

Might be worth people checking for their own vehicles and print out the result, that way you have a list of city's as well.
Mine is a 2014 Euro5 at 5 tonnes. Luckily it passes as no charge on all. PHEW..
But it does class me as a Heavy goods vehicle.

I find that really weird as discussed on another thread, our 2015 Euro 5 (under 3.5) does not pass any LEZ. Hettie's Crew engine is exactly same and same year and passes.

Interesting, I’m only 3.3 tonnes euro 5 and for London is says no charge but for others such as Bristol and Sheffield it does attract a charge. Mine is a 2016 reg so should be euro 6 but I guess it was sat for a good while before it was fitted out by Elddis. Probably a 2015 spec registered in 2016 so I think it confuses some of the websites. When I do a check on mine it doesn’t state it’s euro rating so maybe some sites go purely off the registration year and assume euro 6.

The CAZ rules can differ from city to city. Absolute hell for drivers.

Peugeot or Fiat base? I understand that they had different engines, and perhaps different emissions compliance around that transition period. It might also be affected by the manufacturing date of the original base chassis which might pre-date the conversion completion date by several months. All very confusing.

I've just checked mine: Euro 5, HGV, 5.4T, and charged in every city?

Bradford made £4.5 million in the first 6 months. They can only use the money for clean air projects, so how will that lot be spent then? Plus all the other revenue raised since then.

I checked my 1991 and 2002 MX5’s both petrol, no charge, but my 2012 motorhome 3.5t on a Ducato chassis attracts £50 in several cities. That’s just stupid.

There is always the work around. Buy a vehicle registered as a 'Historic Vehicle'. No charges for them in any current English zone and similar in Scotland although the definition vareis north of the border.

I checked my old Morris Minor, not mine now, ECA567C, it’s exempt from all charges!

The charges came in February I think, the signs have been up for a while but they aren't huge and if you don't know the city I think it could be easy to miss the signs while trying to watch the traffic. My chap lives in Sheffield and totally forgot when he was bringing his van down to mine - £70 fine & he was only in the zone for about 500m. It took a month to be sent out.

To make it worse he did the same on his way home after our trip & got another £70 fine.

I bet he won't forget again!

Not if your motorhome is diesel as it will have higher emissions than the Mazdas

I mentioned the start of this pay to polute happening in sheffield when it was due to start.
I will not go into the city now and havnt since it started.

The other day we went on a long distance trip we hadn't done before so, having seen the widespread publicity about zones around the country, checked the registration number on the -Broken Link Removed- beforehand.
It's easy enough, far easier for instance than checking for narrow roads or low bridges on the planned route.

Yes I think the latter in my case. Mine is on a boxer base, 2.2L 150 BHP

The problem for us is that to get to Castleton from where we are it is on the almost diametrically opposite side of the city. Before the direct route through the centre was fairly short and straightforward. Now we have to got through the suburbs, taking longer, going further on roads not designed to take the traffic and polluting more - just not in the centre.

Our MH is registered in Poland as Vintage/Historic, even though only 20 years old. I wonder if it is exempt?

Useful web site, but it didn't seem to include London.
Difference between clean air and low emission zones?

When will SatNav databases catch up? We went to Bath, and having been caught by its CAZ before we went the long way round and our Satnav took us through the centre of Bristol, so we had to pay for that one!

I’m surprised at how many places for free I can take my smelly child killing 4X4, which has no cat, no dpf, no EGR, no adblue, non electric, with a massive winch on the front, and no pedestrian safety stuff.

But I don’t want to go to them, or any other city.

Just another reason why I prefer Google or Waze (owned by Google) maps for navigating .. bang up to date

Google Maps... better than a sat nav

Google Maps has started warning drivers when their route will take them through a low-emission zone, giving them the option to look for another route or to choose an alternative mode of transportation.

If your journey destination is within the ULEZ, then the app should let you know there is a toll involved when you select your route.

A link to the TfL website will let you know the ULEZ may impact your car, and if your journey simply passes through the zone, Maps may recommend a route that avoids the toll.

If you uprate so over 3.5t you will probably find it will be free in the clean air zones. Also your road tax will only be £165. You will need C1 license.

Can only assume the checker reads your vehicle as Euro 6, as in theory anything after Sept 2015 should fall into Euro 6. Attached is the checker against a 4.25T Euro 4 vehicle which shows there appears to be no escape.

This is the script which Portsmouth kindly added after I wrote to them mentioning that their original wording made no reference to private vehicles over 3.5T, they made it clear they make no distinction between private and commercial vehicles, if it is over 3.5T it has to be Euro6.

Both private and commercial Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) will need to pay the CAZ charge. The DVLA class some Motorhomes as Private Heavy Goods Vehicles, so its worth checking before you travel, as you maybe liable for the charge.
