Hi All
My Daughter is looking to purchase her first motor home . She has found one she likes on a 2.2 , 140bhp Citroen relay.I have no knowledge at all regarding Citroen other than it looks similar to the Ducato. Is it predominantly the same base vehicle as the Ducato . Can anybody put me right please.
Thank you

Boxer, Ducato, Relay and Movano all built by Sevel Sud in Atessa, Italy. Now owned by Stellantis.

Whatever she chooses, do not buy any of the 2.0 litre models. Engines can be very problematic. All the current line up of Stellantis vans use the same PSA engines. And if she is buying an older vehicle avoid the Fiat models that use the twin EGR setup from the years around 2016 to about 2019. You will know if it is the one to avoid by checking it has ad blu ( look in the filler cap flap, there will be two filler caps).

I agree ref the 2 litre, they have been particularly problematic at work.

They are changing the clutches in them after 25000 miles. The older 2.3 easily did 75000+.

The emissions systems have also been plagued with faults, one sensor kept breaking and was an engine out job.

I think it’s a 2022 2.2 140 bhp .

The chassis will basically be the same as the Ducato but the cab will differ. When we were looking at Fiat vs Peugeot ( and Citroen may be the same) it was things like Ducato had passenger airbag but the Peugeot (Boxer) didn't. The Ducator dash was also more modern vs the Boxer.

As others have said, the vehicles are basically the same. However, depending on the age, the engines can differ - for example, our 2013 Ducato has a Fiat/Iveco 2.3 Multijet3 engine, rather than the 2.2 HDi engine which is used in the Citroen Relay/Peugeot Boxer of the same age. All have a galvanised body so don't suffer with rust in the same way as other vans can.

In general, unless you've specific requirements like an automatic gearbox (only available on the Ducato, at least until more recently) then in general I would pay more attention to the layout and condition of the camper side than the make/model of the base vehicle, particularly between the Ducato/Boxer/Jumper!

From info. gleaned from a French Magazine obtained abroad I have found
that the Citroen is cheaper (Pricewise) than the Fiat when purchased new.
There is a differential of €3000.

50 odd years in the motor trade and I could not disagree more, I have gone out of my way to avoid the later Adblu models.

That era don't have adblue. It was the 2020 model (that also had the new 9 speed auto) that introduced Adblue.

That's not the case.
Peugeot, Citroen and now Vauxhall variants use the 2.2L PSA DW12RU engine made at the PSA Powertrain plant in Tremery, Moselle.
Fiat use the 2.2L Multijet3 'Family B' engine (that first appeared in the Jeep Cherokee in 2016) made at the Pratola Serra plant nr. Avellino, Italy.

They did.

But Citroen (and the others) now use the same 2184cc engine as the Fiats. This is the engine that's been developed from the Jeep.

Fiat Ducatos now come with the 2.2litre Multijet 4 engine which is a big improvement over the 2.3litre Multijet 3 used until recently.
