Used white vinegar before to do this but have picked up some citric acid to descale the water heater . Anyone done this before with some simple instructions they could share ( dosage etc ) .

I used 1kg of citric acid in our 100lt water tank.
Mixed it into warm water to dissolve it before adding it to our tank and then topping the tank to the brim and the drawing it through the system by running each of the taps.
Left it to do its work for 3 or 4 hours, then drained it off, refilled and drained a couple of times until the water tasted free of the citric acid.

You ran the whole 100 l hot water through all the taps ? Did it need a rinse after ?

Only ran it through until the citric acid came out of each tap (finger under tap and taste) and then left it.
Drained the tank, refill and run through the tap for a while to clear the pipework.
