hi Everyone,
I'm looking for advice / suggestions on an awning for our new 600L revolution.
as far as I can work out, we will have a a LH3 Ducato chassis, so the 6m long, 2.85m high chassis.
the main options seem to be Thule (Omnistor) or Flammia.

I'm looking for help on dimensions (length and width) and mounting... it appears that I can either mount the awning on the roof line or have it side mounted somewhere lower, above the door.

Are there opinions on the best place to mount it (roofline or side mounted) and pro/ cons for each way? I'll try and find some photos to illustrate.
thanks
Gerry

Our PVC Ducati has a Thule mounted high on the roof line. We have a 6.3 m van and a correspondingly long awning. I takes two to unwind and to put away as we have to wind it out a long way before we can reach the legs to let them down to support the weight. Same on winding back in. One to support and one to fold away the legs. Maybe we are over cautious though. Our previous camper high top VW T4 with a shorter Fiamma awning and was easy to do one handed.
Otherwise we have no preference for make, both similar.
Always use tie downs when erected.

From your van's name I'm assuming its the extra high version, not the standard one that is used for conversions, @jezport is the one to ask as he's just bought a Revolution but on the 6.3m length, however he should be able to tell you what you need as the top fixings will be the same as his, so you'd just need the shorter awning. From memory of when we had a 6m Ducato I think we had a 3.75 Fiamma awning.

Forgot to say, don't go for a side one as that would usually require drilling holes, much better to get the roof one, such as the Fiamma F65S which is meant specifically for van conversions and would be much easier for you to fit.

yes, the Revolution is the higher roof LH3 version (AFAIK) which is 2.85m high rather than the "standard" LH2 version, which is about 2.6m high. :)

Thule dont do the brackets for the roof on the H3 so if you want to use a roof mount you have to go for a. Fiamma.. I have a 4 mtr F65, you would probably want a 3.7m F65.

thanks.. that is really useful - yes after a bit of research, it looks like the Thule will be a bit of an issue as i don’t know I really want to drill the side of the van unnecessarily .

how do you find dropping the legs from the high roof? when opening it an putting it away?

I emailed Thule and they have confirmed there is a new Ducato H3 mounting adaptor for the Omnistar 5200 awning (ref 309999) that is a no-drill fitting – and used Sikaflex 252 (only) as a bonding agent. (and sent me the manual and fitting instructions)

for info - Thule Ducato awning fitment guide and revised H3 awning adaptor guide - on looking at it I can’t work out whether it still needs drilling - see illustration 2 - there seem to be 5 screws that go into the adaptor plate - and i don’t know what they do - so i’ve asked for clarification

This is a wall mounting kit NOT a roof mount kit.

yip.. i know that - I was just posting the info I got from thule - the Flammia F65s is still looking like the most promising option ;)

Its the only option if you want a roof mounted one. I wouldn't like a side mounted awning, it would look ugly. My van is dark grey so I have a black F65 and it looks as good as any awning can look.

looking at the Fiammia pages looking on the fiamma website http://www.fiamma.com/EN/products/fiammastore/adapters_f65/
it looks like the H3 mounting kit 98655-656 required drilling of the roof too :(

the recommendation from our dealer is to go for the side mounted option on the H3 van as the roof mount makes it too high (he said they fit 1500 awnings a year) they will fit on roof line if i want, but didn’t recommend it - he sent these photos one was an illustration. our van is silver, so i think i would need a silver awning rather than black.

They are telling you porky pies. Even with a roof mounted awning fitted the roof windows are still higher.
Heres proof
