I'm a newbie
We have a RollerTeam Zefiro 2021 on a Transit chassis. I need to replace the cab battery (AGM 80Ah 800A) which is wrecked by two very deep discharges. I rigged up a battery capacity check with 55w headlight bulb on advice from rb62 in a reply to my earlier post last Monday 31/7. rb62 referenced LennyHB and following the trail I found a brilliant summary of the procedure for a battery drain test by Autorouter dating back to 4/11/18. The battery capacity now calculates out at 37Ah.
Should I buy another AGM battery? My concern is that they do not (and that is my bitter experience!) cope with deep discharges. Our MH is stored away from sources of mains hookup and is 12 miles distant. Altho we do have a solar panel and VanBitz Battery Master, I would want to be less vulnerable to periods of battery drain in winter when solar panel is not contributing much. Or just suck it up, replace like for like and take the MH for a stroll from time to time in winter if not otherwise used?

If your budget will strtch i dont regret going lithium, Otherwise if you dont like to maintain your lead acid go for a sealed lead acid .I have never had gel so can say. But it all depends on your useage give some more details and you will soon get the right avice but budget plays a big part

sorry misread the title you said cab battery so you mean engine. ignore my earlier post

I buy my Cab batteries from Halfords. I've used their 5 year guarantee a few times, even once when I didn't have a reciept!

We had a similar issue with an AGM start battery in our last van - it had a smart alternator that at times was giving 15v so the replacement would have needed to cope with that. Our current van has a standard alternator, and an Exide EFB thankfully. From a previous life we had a boat supplied with three separate banks of AGM (non carbon, just plain old AGM's) batteries, they lost capacity very quickly (2 years) since it was difficult to adhere to the makers instructions to ensure they were fully charged up at least once per month, and they sulphated badly as a result. So my take on it, for what it's worth is that the take it out for a stroll approach is a good one!
