Can anybody tell me what kind of data a chipped firestick would use please when using abroard.. Also does it need great wifi or perfect signal to get a good picture..
Many thanks

Just to add we will be using the Avtex AMR985 wifi system..

I presume you mean IPTV or similar apps? I've never checked but I presume it just uses the same amount of data as normal TV. 1gb per hour is the going rate.

Always better with a good signal but I was getting patchy 4G last night and watched a whole champions league match near flawlessly.

Many thanks monzer. Im trying to sort this out on behalf of my parents who are off to spain in the winter and they would like some english telly. I dont think the wifi is great on the site they stay at so they may require a sim of some description to get them 4g..

Yeah your typical site WiFi won't be any use.

I agree that 4g is needed we have been using a fire stick on an avtext for a few weeks now in France and it haha used around 1gb an hour.
Don’t leave the stick on standby and switch of the tethering supply as soon as you finish watching.

lots of apps available to watch movies, series etc that dont need a subscription ...

Get yourself one of these sims they do them in different amounts you don't have to buy 300gB if you give them a call or email them they can post it to you and you can activate in UK if you want to? The contact is Camino she speaks good English.😊

Thanks for the info guys.. This is great (y)

I mailed Camino yesterday and the only data sim smaller than 300gb is 150gb, but the 150gb only works in Spain .

Depends on a few factors like what’s your watching film, series everyday Tv they all use up different data usage.

I can go through 65GB plus easy watching films streamed but I’m lucky I have 700GB of saved data to use.

I had no problems using my firestick connected to a mifi with a Tesco mobile sim in it, in France and Spain earlier this year, all UK channels worked without a VPN and no issues with slow connections, this was using the mifi's internal antenna not an external one. Be aware that Tesco have changed their roaming policy now and from January next year you will have to pay to roam unless you have an existing account before 16th June 2022 in which case you continue to get free roaming until such time as you take out a new contract.

If you reduce the resolution to 720 it will also reduce data usage and the difference in picture quality is minimal.

You can go into any of the Spanish providers stores and get data sims of varying sizes.
Just finished using a Vodafone 150gb sim for €15.

Great information. I think my parents are on ID mobile. Is this good to tether too?

If you go to the video quality setting in the firestick you can set it to a lower picture quality which will save data. On a mh TV you will be very, very, hard pushed to see the difference as their picture quality isn't exactly the highest to start off with.
