Chinese Motorhome Import: Left Hand Drive Insurance Advice

Hi there, I wondered whether anyone has any experience of importing a motorhome from China. It is Left Hand Drive and I'm concerned about insurance.

Mine is LHD but it isn't a**e about face, so it's worth checking that you can get everything serviced, repaired and replaced as needed. It can be quite difficult to get insurance for something that is one of a kind.

Thanks guys. Yes it's the one of a kind issue. It's BYD, a very reputable Chinese car maker, but new to Motorhomes. So they have no track record in UK even if it is beautifully made and fully registered etc.

I'm actually buying two to convince both buyers and insurers that I have spare parts on tap, while I order the parts from China (about 2 weeks delivery)

Does it require Type Approval for UK and , if so, does it have it?

Thanks; it doesn't require it, but I could probably get Type Approval, although I haven't applied yet.

You can get an individual tyre approval inspection by DVSA for £200

Why don't you have the full specs to hand and then contact the insurers?

Just wondered why you are buying two if parts are available from China in a fortnight.
Seems very extravegent for a private buyer.
If thats the pug ugly thing in the photo i think id leave it in China.
Looks like its been driven into an ugly tree a few times.

You should be able to insure it no problem as BYD import to the UK ( Cars at the moment)
