Has anyone fitted a Chinese heater one that is fitted to the main tank on the motorhome thanks

My lad has fitted one to his Land Rover Defender, fed from the fuel tank.

That's a valid point, though it depends how often you use the heater and how easily available red diesel is.
For occasional use, the convenience of not having to fill it separately and find a source of red can be worth the extra £££s. If it's in constant use the savings could mount up quite quickly.

I would consider a separate tank as this would allow you to use red diesel and save a few £ on heating costs.

Or home heating oil as I do, even cheaper still. (y)
Even at the high price heater oil is at present at 50p a litre

On my last motorhome, I re-piped the fuel supply from the main tank. I took out the fuel sender which was located under a panel in the passenger footwell (Fiat Ducato) I then drilled a 5mm hole through it and ran a piece of copper brake pipe through the hole to a suitable level, I also put a male flare on the pipe so that it had a good seal with the flexy pipe, I then sealed around the pipe with hot glue. I replaced the original fuel pipe with a more suitable fuel pipe that I got from a plant company and ran the whole fuel system under the vehicle.

Mine being a Fiat 2.8idtd, I had to drill the tank because mine doesn’t have a lift pump so sender unit hole in tank is small.

If you have a fiat etc its dead easy. Just tap into the breather tube....

the fuel line is connected to a steel tube, cut to leave about 40mm gap to the bottom of the tank (fuel pickup). I just drilled a small hole in breather pipe and the angle piece cut its own thread , with a bit of epoxy added for good measure. Been working great for past year.

How does that work then.....there's no diesel in the breather.
Breather hose is just that.....allows the tank to breath rather then cause a vacuum as the level drops
I think it is one of these. it has a long thin pipe on it going down into the tank.

I've heard of people tapping into the fuel return pipe but know nothing more about it.

The fuel return pipe would be a bad idea for a diesel heater as it "may" be quite high pressure and would overpower the diesel pump in the heater. Overfuelling would be the main result.

Also, wouldn't it not operate if the engine wasn't running?

Has I said I know nothing about it, when I was looking at installing a diesel heater I joined a Facebook group on the install and the same reply often appeared about the tapping into the return.
