Cheap Adblue

I purchased this AdBlue from this supplier in May this year and the manufacturing date code was from March 2023.

Assuming a 12 month shelf life for an unopened container, this has plenty of time to use it if you do the miles.

Good spot - thanks! I was just about to buy 10 litres at BnQ for £16 but now have 40 litres on it's way to me for £27.70 inc pnp. So 69p a litre instead of £1.60(y)

What’s the expiry/use before date Dave?
i asked as I was interested as well. They said the stock they are currently selling has a manufacture date of June 23.

See above from Ditcha (dave) for even better news on the date… ✔️

I bought loads of Adblue earlier this year form Home Bargains. I topped up before I left for my current trip to the Balkans. I then got the low Adblue warning and discovered I had only packed one 5 litre bottle!! Had to go and buy some expensive stuff from garage!!! I put in 10 litres (in addition to the 5 I had with me) and hoping it'll get me home!!

Saw adblue at 36 cents at a garage in Zaragoza on our way down, couldn't believe it, (fuel was cheap as well).
Wish I had kept my empty 10 litre container, used on the way down, to refill!
There must be some profit in that stuff!!!

I bought 40 litres as it was cheap enough but the cheapest i have found was at a garage just outside of Louhans at €0.49

I normally just use the station pumps but sometimes a pain to find but have noticed alot more available in Spain.

It’s ok if your filler flap is hinged from the correct side that allows you to put the pump nozzle in to the filler neck, unlike mine 🤯🤣🤣

Think I’ll have to decant these 20ltrs containers that have just arrived, they’d take some holding to pour through the little funnel we’ve got 😳

20l in 2 x 10l tubs were £16 and some pennies delivered. My Aldi hasn't got it that cheap!

Yes I filled up in May from Leclerc in Dax... Worked out at 42p/litre. Now I have to top up again when I get van back from dealer. Last time here (probably January) it was £1.25 at local garage pump 😕

I don't need to use AdBlue and frankly I know little if anything about it. But, I was shocked to overhear our local Volvo service manager explaining a hefty bill to a lady customer. Apparently they had had to replace this that and the other on her car most probably because she had used cheap [supermarket] AdBlue, not the Volvo recommended stuff. Does the quality vary and can it cause problems?

No, it's typical dealer talk. If it's sold in the UK it has to meet the same EN standard that the Volvo one does. It like saying "yes the oil is okay but it's not as good as our Volvo branded oil and it "might" have caused the problem." What can and does happen is that people don't realise that it can go stale. It's best to use it in 12 months and preferably from an unopened bottle.
I've recently changed from a VW T6 and they are absolutely plagued with ongoing Ad Blue issues, from underfilling, overfilling and crystallisation. There is a good market for DPF delete works which reportedly is improving reliability by altogether removing the software and installing cheat hardware for the plugs to fool the ECU.
