There's a good offer for a '3' mobile broadband data sim at the moment - loaded with 12gb which lasts for up to 12 months (or until the data is used up), the 12 months only starts from when you stick it in your mifi and activate it so you can 'sit' on it for a while if you don't need it yet. Can be used abroad in '3' feel at home countries for up to 2 months within the year.

Cost: £23.79 including delivery - not seen it this cheap anywhere!

Wow, that is good, thanks.
I recently topped our '3' sim up - £10 for 1Gb which only lasts 30 days.
I'll be ordering yours!

John

Its always cheaper to get the pre-loaded ones than top-up, daft but true! If you're likely to use a lot it would be worth getting 2 or more at that price!

3 network 15gb a month on a rolling contract for £20 per month then cancel when you get home. I do it every year for the 3-4 weeks im away.

Do you know whether it's possible to activate a '3' SIM when abroad (in a 'feel at home' country) or does this have to be done before leaving the UK?
Thanks
John

Last "great offer" on here was March when it was £28.99 via ebay. Still using that one that has done good service.

You shouldn't need to activate it, but I always try the sim in the UK before leaving.

What is the best mifi deal at the moment that can use the "3" sim.

Not available. :(
OK, who bought all the bloody sims?:LOL::LOL:

3 are offering a Huwaei 4g mifi for £39 on various monthly contracts, possible to get one free on longer contracts.

Various plans but 15 Gb for £20/month on monthly.

So that means that you're paying for 2 months so £40? You could of course cancel the contract (ie give 30 day notice) as soon as you get it but you have to time it right so that you get the sim just before you're going away as the deal starts as soon as you buy it, not when you activate it.

@Minxygirl
Sorry to barge through your thread but can I remind peeps here that if you have a 3 Sim as recommended, don't use it all up up abroad. If you take the SIM out with a bit left on it, and then use it back in Blighty, it's as if you didn't use it abroad..
Our is currently showing 14.9Mb and it's showing no signs of switching itself off.
.

we have just bought 4 sims from .my memory... from their website not ebay at £23.45 each free delivery

That's right, take the contract out and cancel it and it gives you 30 days.
Didn't do that last year but older and wiser this year

I've got one from another source, where does it say the limit is 2mths abroad (3@H)? I didn't know that restriction

What does that mean in practice?
Does it mean if you have a week at the end of July then a week at the beginning of August you are stuffed? Or does it mean you can use it for 2 months (62 days) throughout the year (5 days each month for example)?

I think it means that if you are away and use the sim for 2 full months within a rolling 12 month period (not necessarily consecutive) in "Feel at Home" (FAH) countries they may suspend your ability to use the sim abroad. However if you use it for less than a full month abroad in a FAH country then it doesn't count so long as you use it in the UK or a non-FAH country, before going away again.

It would therefore appear that so long as you do NOT rack up full months it doesn't count towards your 2 month/year limit so long as you use it in the UK/non-FAH country in the interim to 'prove' it's not in a FAH country continually. I think!

Sorry if being a bit thick but trying to work something out. We are travelling through France to Spain. We will be 4 weeks getting there 3 months on a camp site and a month coming back. I will use camp wifi in Spain. Can I use the same sim for both journeys, down and back as we are 'still abroad' before return but over the 2 months or do I buy 2 one for going one for coming back. Also I presume anything left I can use back in the Uk.

You could just get 2 x 12gb sims as you suggest or alternatively get a couple of smaller ones if you don't need as much as 12gb over a year, eg '3' do a 6gb sim for around £10 which lasts up to 90 days (2 month restriction still applies), so you could use one on the way down, and one on the way back (and also when you're away from the site if you needed to), you wouldn't then have to worry about going into a second month on either of them as in effect they give you up to 4 months in FAH countries.

For information -

Just had the following text from 3:

Hello. Feel At Home (FAH) is for UK customers going abroad for short trips. If you use it for 2 complete months in a rolling 12 month period we will turn off your international roaming services. As you have already roamed exclusively in our FAH destinations for at least 1 month in the last 12, we will switch off roaming if you roam exclusively in a FAH destination for a further month. See http://three.co.uk/FAH_use

(I was actually using the sim in France for 7 weeks:rolleyes:)

Big brother is keeping an eye on us:(

My interpretation is:

Using the sim in a FAH country (for a complete month) without using it in a non FAH country or the UK.

Just a guess.

That is my understanding too, it has to be complete months though for it to count against FAH usage, hence the 7 weeks of use by Taran_Las only counts as one complete month, if she'd used it for 60 days in total without using it in the UK or a non-FAH country, then she'd have used her 2 month allowance for the 12 month period.

If you do need to use it for more than 2 complete months in a FAH country during a 12 month period you'd be better off buying another sim so you can switch them round to extend your usage in FAH countries to 4 complete months in total.
