I have recently bought a Chaussson 711 Traveline Welcome motorhome and am unsure of how to drain down the freshwater tank. The online user manual says about running through the taps but surely there is some sort of drain valve. There is a valve by the water tank which shows for half or full tank for traveling and a drain off pipe under the van with a stop end on it. I am only asking as I was not shown by the dealer where I bought the van. Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Having recently bought your motorhome from a dealer don't be concerned about revisiting your dealer and telling them openly that you are still unsure about what is required to drain down your fresh water tank.

Thanks Neil. In most cases you should also have another valve fitted near your water heater to drain it down and protect it from freezing when not in use during the winter months so it may be worth asking about that at the same time if not already aware.

No problem I have drained the water heater and the water from the system it was just much more straightforward in my last motorhome!

We have e benimar and there’s a green cap out side under fresh water tank which dumps the water yours probably the same as they tend to share parts

Thanks I'll check it may be the pipe that I mentioned with a stop end cap on it then

Hi.. i think you will be right about that..
My chausson fw tank drain pipe had a push fit stop plug as standard and exited around the hab entrance door..
Its easy to get a push fit inline valve and fit that in its place..
A little easier and more convenient than a plug to use.

To drain down the pipework as you say you will have the boiler drain valve .. when you open that open your taps and shower head to help vlear the water from the pipes..

Thats not quite the same as mine then...
On mine the stopper was on the fw tank drain down valve... which i replaced with a conventional valve..
The drain for the tank capacity to be altered for travelling was a spring loaded valve like the boiler drain valve...ie lift the handle and the tank would drain to a min capacity for travelling and obviously when you want thetank filled you had to remember to close it.... i never use it anyway and usually travel with full tank unless i know where im heading and know i can fill on arrival..

Thanks that helps alot because I've got the same spring loaded valve as you that's the part that's leaking they going to change it for me next week . The diagram I put up looks some sort of restrictor too just thought it was a bit primitive to crawl under your van to completely empty the tank!

Again on mine the tank drain pipe did come out by the side skirt so wasnt hard to reach.. its just the stopper that was fitted isnt quite as easy as the valve i replaced it with..
If your drain pipe terminates under the van get the dealer to extend it to a convenient location when you take it in...
Andy.

Changed mine for a push fit tap too a lot more convenient

Mine has the same pipe but next to that is a green cap close to the floor under neath which drains the water tank not the best idea stand clear when you take off you might get wet

Ours has a drain under the van below where the water fill hatch is.Blue cap.I label it and put it in the sink as reminder. It comes off easily and I can reach it with one knee on the ground. It needs a firm tap to get it securely back on, if I just push it leaks. Mallet or tin of beans does the trick.
