Chausson 640 welcome
Exp
Since October 2019
Quite anobscure one but the chausson 640 has a usb port above the passengers front seat built into the pelmet at the top of the cab (I know I should have a pic but I’m in my PJs now ) . Anyway I need to replace the circular usb socket because swmbo has broken it . Does anyone know how to get to it and done it before ?

Done this before, so here you go.

Mine is a 2019 Chausson 530 so the front cab elements should be the same as your 640.

You need remove the brown trim piece to get at the USB port. The brown trim piece is held in by a number of self tapping screws around the edge which you can see if you look over the top. One screw you can't see is about 200mm from the front edge, located in a countersunk hole and will be a long wood screw about 30 to 40mm long.

Once you have removed all of the above screws you then need to remove the chrome curtain rail screws on the underside of the brown trim price up to the brown front trim piece across the shelf under the front roof light.

You're not finished yet🤔. Once you lower the chrome curtain rail out of the way, you will see more self tapping screws holding the bottom edge of the brown trim piece to the underside of the shelf, remove all of these up to where the side trim piece meets the front brown trim piece.

By now the brown trim piece with the USB port should be loose, but you may need to remove the beige curved trim piece at the top of the passenger door B post to finally release the brown trim panel. This may or may not be held in with self tapping screws.

Now carefully pull out the brown trim piece by holding the top edge and pulling forwards towards you but again be careful not to scratch the white and brown passenger side upright trim.

You now have access to the usb port👍 reinstalling the trim is the reverse of the above.

It's not a difficult job but it's somewhat time consuming and fiddly, if you don't want to mark or damage the trim pieces.

If you get stuck or need any further info, just ask.

Just one question . What did you replace it for and do you have the link ?

I have a 640 and replaced mine with this. I didn’t fully take the trim off. I managed to get my fingers underneath to hold the locknut. Mine had a couple of those quick release connectors for the wires, so the change over was a 10 min job. I bought the replacement off Amazon.

Just another point to add, most of these replacements have a led which can give an annoying glow at night. I covered this 1 with a piece of black insulation tape.

Took the opportunity to replace with twin USB C socket when I had the trim piece removed to run solar panel feed cables to new MPPT controller bypassing Chausson wiring harness.

I agree. These sockets are great. They'll charge a phone really quickly. They'll even run a 15" laptop. I think they'll only provide up to 30w per socket when given 12v though.

The other thought... That's 5 amps (assuming it does only go to 30w per socket). I think the existing wiring should be ok?
