I alsays do. The battery is under a seat and unaccessible so if a charge us needed I connect the charger to the jump start terminal under the bonnet. Might be a problem with a high output charger though.
Yes it is, the only proviso is that you either use the connectors under the bonnet (boxer/Ducato et al) or if you use the battery terminal posts, make sure you use some part of the cab for the earth terminal and not the battery post. Summat to do with ECU apparently, my time with engines was 50 years ago so not sure what it'd do to it.
For the last two winters I have left an Optimate dual intelligent charger attached to both my starter and hab batteries in situ with absolutely no I'll effects. The charger was connected to the battery terminals and the charger plugged into the 230v supplied by the hook up. I did turn off the built in charger as a precaution.
