Bailey autograph 765
Hi everyone
My charger has tripped on my fuse box .I have re set it but I don't think it's now charging my battery when plugged in on site. I have a bailey autograph 765 on a 2014 plate . It also has solar panel

Hi and welcome.

Have you checked all fuses on the panel.

Have you got the power lead icon on the control panel? This comes from the charger and shows that it is working from the mains supplied by the ecu. If the lead is there then I think there is an inline fuse from the charger to the battery that could have blown.

No power lead icon just a battery with vin it

are any of your 240v plug sockets working

i dont know your model of motorhome, but i would be checking every fuse before making any other assumptions

The charger is located on the rear of the mains rcd unit it is a plug in unit, with a "kettle" style mains plug check this has not become dislodged.
The charger failing on the Approach is quite a common problem ours failed halfway down France a couple of years ago.

You can tell if it is charging the battery by looking at the battery voltage. If it's over about 12.8V then something is charging it. Typically it's about 14.5V when actively being charged, and about 13.5V when being 'float charged' (that means keeping it topped up but not overcharging it).

If you have solar, then that will confuse things. But you could wait until it's dark and the solar isn't charging. Then if the battery stays up at 13.5V all the time, the mains charger is working. If it drops down to below 13V then it's not.

Thank you everyone for your advise . I've tried all advise. and the battery drops down below 12v . so will look at battery charger /replacement tomorrow

Seems likely that the charger failed tripping the breaker in the process. When looking for a replacement charger worth thinking about future proofing by getting one that has proper charging profiles for Lead Acid, AGM, Gel and Lithium batteries. All battery types benefit from being charged properly but they all require different voltages/profiles.

Thank you for your comments I have taken them on board hope to have someone look at it today . Will keep you posted

The same on my Bailey Autograph on my last trip this year, No mains icon on display, getting mains on the 240v sockets but no charge to leisure battery. Dropped a new charger in and problem solved, hardest part was sourcing one.

In case it helps, on our 2012 Bailey Approach, the charger, which is situated on top of the distribution unit (main fusebox) is exactly the same size as the new Victron IP22 mains charger that we had fitted when we bought lithium leisure batteries. It was, so far as the mains charger was concerned, simply a matter of unplugging the charger that came with the van and plugging in the Victron charger.
