I thought that was the vehicle insurance ?

No ,many travel/health insurers require a date of return booking, not all.Never heard of vehicle insurer asking but some may.BUSBY.

Which bank?
We rely on Lloyds, normally book a return but occasionally don't. Looked through their policy doesn't say anything about having to have a return booked.

Nor does my Nationwide,,BUSBY.
