Am preparing the van for our up-coming trip to Portugal via France and Spain. Have a Truma filter and want to change it with a new cartridge. The little plastic spanner supplied by Truma is in place but the filter shows no sign of budging.
Can someone please confirm which way to turn to loosen the filter. Going ti spray the thread with a release agent in the meantime.
Thanks

Conventional thread to the left or Anticlockwise for undoing it. As Bessy765 states....Hot water on the housing

Kev

Release the gas pressure first, may need to slacken off a pipe connection. 100psi+ can make a big difference to how tight the chamber is. Normal thread. I recall how locked on it felt under pressure.

A proper metal ring spanner would also be better if you have one that fits

Thanks all for your help. Managed to loosen with almost useless plastic tool. Release agent did its stuff. Put a little grease on the thread before replacing filter with new cartridge.
By the way, there was about 2 ml of oily residue in the bottom of the filter and the new cartridge looks less solid than the old one. Still, job done.

Is it ok to grease gas fittings?
Just asking….

It’s just a little on the thread of the filter housing. If a problem, I’ll remove the grease. Be interested in the views of others on this. Not doubting you @ B+W vanman. Just checking. 👍

The latest filter is much easier to undo.

I use water pump pliers to undo it, plastic thing is useless.
I've had 5 to 6mm of oil after using French gas.

There are two filter cartridges a Truma and a GOK the GOK are the better ones like the original ones. The Truma filter is a rebranded GOK.

Yes, the replacement that I got from Autogas 2000 is branded Truma but bore little relation to the original one supplied with the ‘old- style’ in line Truma filter. The original one was a solid white cylinder of some unknown material. The new one, is a cylinder wrapped round with a few layers of gauze. Much flimsier.
We’re currently in France but managed to fill up with LPG in York before we left. So a few days of high concentration propane before needing the oily, butane mix.
p.s. it’s very cold here (-2° tonight after 2° in the day) we’ll be going through the gas quite quickly.

Interesting, when I checked mine (also had to use water pump pliers) there was no filter in it and it didn’t look as if there should be, it’s about a 70mm deep tapered bowl, but had about 3mm of oil in the bottom. I thought it was just a gravity type filter. Must look next time we are at a Motorhome shop. Shame we stayed at one in Jerez last night.
Out of interest, we tried to fill up with gas at Jerez and it was so cold that after half an hour pumping it had only half filled the bottles. They were 10c cheaper than everybody else so must have been almost straight butane. I stopped at half way hoping to get more propane next time. But the heating worked ok this morning.

We stock both types , Truma did introduce the different type when they stopped dealing with GOK back in 2018 I believe.
