Burstner 690G
Hello, I'm new to motorhoming (since February) and this site (since last year).
I'm off to France Wednesday, driving a new Ducato based Burstner 690.
The speedo is digital, it shows the speed in miles per hour only.
Does anyone know how I change this to show the speed in kilometers per hour?
I cannot find the option in the settings on the digital dashboard.
I have tried google but again no joy.
Thanks for any help.

You can change it from the steering wheel, you need the key on, press the down arrow on the left hand buttons to settings, then from memory go into display and then speed

Thanks Pukka. I'll give it try.

If you change the speedo to kph does it also change the odometer to Km and then back to miles at the correct distance you’ve travelled when you return to U.K.

I was reluctant to change mine over as I didn’t know the answer to this question and the manual is next to useless for such detail. I suspect it will but you need to be sure.

Yes it does (on mine anyway), it what I always do in France, and change back in UK

I've have tried this today. I started the engine. Using the left side buttons (on front of steering wheel) down arrow I can get to options, I can see 'display options' this allows me to change what is shown in the 4 corners around the speedo. I cannot see a way to change the speed units on the speedo itself. Anyone else able to do it successfully?

OK I saw that option but I couldn't see km/h or mph options all I could see was a tick that I couldn't change.

I'm pretty sure that the Ducato ECU is doing all its calcs in metric anyway. Even in a 2007 van, if you watch the mpg calc, it always jumps in odd steps. But they're nice round numbers if you back calculate the figures to litres per 100km.

I’m interested to know how you get on with your new Burstner driving
In France and specifically if you have any issues overtaking HGVs with crosswinds,

Sure I'll let you know. The Crosswinds thing is interesting. I believe there's an option on the latest Series of Ducatos
I have a 2022 Ducato with a fully digital dash and you can change the speed dial to KPH
Can you tell me how you do this or point me at web page or manual? Thanks.

Not got a Ducato, but shouldn't it be with the ignition on but NOT the engine running?

It changes both, Roy. We can change ours (2018 Ducato) Ours is LHD so was set on KM when I picked it up, but I was able to switch to miles when we got to UK. The way I did it was through the radio/satnav console (image below) I first pressed the settings icon (top right) then Display>Units>Distance, then you get the MI/KM option. This method changes the units on both the satnav and the speedo/mileometercluster. On our previous Ducato you did it by the dashboard using the headlight adjustment buttons and mode button on left of steering wheel.

I just press OK in the middle of the left hand Stalk and it changes to KM and vice versa.
Mine always changes back to mph when I turn the engine off.
2022 Ducatto.

I have a 2022 Ducato with a digital dash and the bigger centre screen, I found I could swop between Mls & Kms in the settings screen on the cente display, this was then reflected on the main dash screen. It then stays in in your chosen units until you change it back. I can also change my fuel consumption figures between 3 options, mpg/L/100km or Km/L.

From the home screen, Vehicle, Units, choose your options

That's the way we found to do it, by accident, in our 2018 Ducato. I had been fiddling with the dashboard buttons to the RHS of the steering wheel as on previous models but no option. Wife was fiddling with satnav/radio and all of a sudden I had gone from 60mph to 110km ph!

Hi ,sorry about the delay.

So with ignition on and engine OFF. Scroll across to vehicle setup then down to units ,press ok, press ok again highlight km/h press ok . Job done.

If you have a new series 8 van, you simply press the 'ok' button on the list of the steering wheel.

If you have an earlier series 7 van, the settings are available using the up/down arrow buttons

First time back on the road again so tried to change my Speedo to kph. Easy by using the vehicle settings on the Uconnect 7 and was able to leave the odometer on miles & the mpg too.

Given how difficult the speedo is to read on our 2016 Ducato based Knaus I use a mobile phone app to show me a true GPS speed on my phone. This can easily be displayed in MPH for use in the UK or KPH when you are abroad. You can change this in settings in seconds. I mount it over the rear view mirror using a phone holder so I can glance up to check speed. The speed readout is large and clear. Godsend on our recent European tour. The app is called "GPS Speedometer and Odometer" by a developer called Cool Niks. When you first use the app it displays an advert but you can quickly cancel that and it doesn't show one again until you restart the app. I also use it on one of my motorbikes which has a very small, hard to read speedo. I just put the phone in an Ultimate Addons weather proof case on the handlebars. Really useful little app.

Thanks for this. I didn't release how the Uconnect screen and dashboard are so well joined together and not separate devices. We changed both the speed and distance to KM. This changed the speed and odometer (as well as the range) on the dashboard. Changing it back worked as well.

I’m interested to know how you get on with your new Burstner driving
In France and specifically if you have any issues overtaking HGVs with crosswinds,
Chris,
My Burstner is a 690G 140 engine with a weight upgrade to 4250KG. It has a drop bed at the front in the ceiling when driving. It also has the fifth travel seat and we travelled as 5 adults and small (10kg) dog. I had done 400 miles before this trip and now 1200 or so. I am not an experienced motorhome driver.
In short I found driving a motorhome in France be it motorway or country side to be easier than driving in the UK. I did not drive through Paris. The roads were generally quieter than the UK. The roads were in really good condition and there were few hedges so I generally had great visibility when driving in the country side.
Driving south from Calais to Epernay the E15/A26. There are some exposed parts where you could feel the wind but not enough that I felt uncomfortable. Overtaking HGVs and coaches - you could feel the draft but again it was not uncomfortable so no issues.
However driving from Bruges to Calais along the E40/A10 (on Wednesday 12th April during storm Noa) it was windy. It was time to slow down at certain parts. I didn't feel out of control but I could feel the van being pushed from time to time just driving on my own. Overtaking HGVs in these conditions was a lot harder. I look forward to driving in France again. HTH.

Overtaking HGVs involves being aware and ready for the effect of your van being drawn (sucked) closer to the HGV as you pass and then as you hit their 'bow wave' at their front the opposite effect of being pushed away.
This is made worse if the HGV is acting as a windbreak from a cross wind (if your on their leeward side) as you pass ahead this cross wind will tend to push you further away from them.
As long as you predict these effects you'll be absolutely fine.
