Been caravanning for years but now ordered my first motorhome
Thinking of changing our Swift Kon Tiki we are looking at either a Hymer B ML I 790 or a Carthago Chic looking for any problems owners have experienced while owning these motorhomes.

We have just changed our 14.5 year old autotrail, for a Carthago, and yes more expensive, but the step up in quality is evident, only had a few weeks but mega impressed

There’s a Hymer Owners Group on Facebook, might be worth paying them a visit.👍

this is our fifth mototorhome ....
.... and so far it is not looking good.

But, it is the Fiat Base Vehicle which is the problem - not Hymer. The Fiat not-so-smart alternator is a nightmare.

The last MH had the dreaded Fiat Air Bag failure.

Mer edes aren't without their issues, I've heard complaints about Nox Sensor failures that prevent engine start.

I would focus on layout and overall build quality. But the ride is quite different Fiats tend to be quite a hard ride but Mercs can be a bit too bouncy, especially the twin wheel ones. Might be worth trying a few used ones and comparing, not sure how the later fwd ones are but someone will surely tell us.

Lenny could you elaborate on the deterioration of the Hymer brand? I am interested as I buy older Hymers and would like to know what I might be letting myself in for in the future with blind brand loyalty.

We have had 3 Hymer's a 2008, 2014 & 2017.
The 2008 had the best cabinet work but body crossion was a problem, hab door was replaced out of warranty FOC, the last two had minimal corrosion on drivers door and tiny bits elsewhere all fixed under warranty.
Cabinet work not as good as Carthago on the newer ones, general build quality seems poorer.
Also they tend to have had poor ground clearance that is now better with the SLC chassis that's from about 2019.

Tbf most of them were better before the 2009 crash.
