On a previous motorhome I changed the original Uconnect 5" head unit to a 7" Pioneer camper. The Pioneer worked well, but because the Uconnect system functionalities cover both the head unit and the driver's display, I lost some functionality on the driving display. I'm therefore reluctant to go outside the Uconnect system for a head unit, although I recognise that I could have a standalone satnav stuck on the dash trim.

My current MH came with the Uconnect 7" system that only works the satnav through your phone. I use Android Auto with Sygic and its good, however the phone gets very hot over a period of time, and there is currently no Android Auto satnav that allows you to input vehicle dimensions, which would be handy. Sygic Truck allows you to do this, but its not on Android Auto.

The Uconnect 10" screen solves this - it has a built-in satnav, and the later versions allow vehicle dimensions to be input.

So my question is, has anyone done this 7" to 10" Uconnect exchange, and is it feasible?

Many thanks.
Regards,

I've not done it but I pulled the Connect 10" out of mine to see if I could easily tap the audio out feed when doing a sound upgrade. I couldn't so tapped the speaker feeds instead.

They come out easily, remove the two air vents and a couple of screws behind the vents and out it pops.

A few pictures attached to give you an idea of whats lurking back there!

Thanks Abgs. How are you getting on with the 10" - is it good?

It's not as responsive as the MBUX I had in my Sprinter, but wireless Carplay is better.

The bundled Sat Nav is also pretty good but I don't tend to rely on it. You can enter the dimensions of your vehicle but I'm pretty sure it doesn't always take them into consideration. I've had cause to doubt it on three occasions.

Sounds OK with better speakers and a bass amp installed, but I think there is a Carthago installed Jennet Amp in the mix somewhere in my Motorhome.

Telephony and text works very well either through CarPlay or the Uconnect app.

Hi, did you get anywhere with swapping the Uconnect 7 for the 10?

No. Actually getting a 10" Uconnect from Fiat proved horrendously difficult and expensive. It's obviously a question/request that nobody has asked before!

We have just come back from Italy, Switzerland and France. The 7" worked OK (not awful, not brilliant) through Android Auto, but sometimes disconnected from the phone at critical moments. We managed though.

As I get the sweats just changing a 3 pin plug, seeing what you have done there would have me running for the toilet!🤣

That looks nice and easy, I can't see any video inputs in the photo are they just as easy to access?.

We have a Carthago on order with the 10" unit and I really don't understand why Carthago fit a seperate monitor for the reversing camera when there is a larger better screen in a better place so I will be looking at modding it. I will be fitting more cameras, front cameras and service camera to start with.

I can't see any other inputs other than those in the pictures. The unit is common to a lot of Fiat & Chrysler vehicles - see the serial number sticker attached, you may be able to find a wiring digram for it online. I've had a brief look but not turned up anything useful yet.

I also have plans for more cameras, my next job is to work out how to interface cheap cameras to the Carthago Dometic system. I have four inputs and only one rear camera.

There is some useful info on the German Carthago forum but I've yet to find the bundle of cable connectors for the extra camera inputs. I think they are buried behind the dashboard fuse box which is really hard to get at on the RHD model. Really the driver's seat needs to come out to access it comfortably.

The rear camera does have an "always on rear view mirror" function which is useful and might be why they use the separate monitor. That said the monitor position is poor on the RHD models - it gets in the way of the storage box lid. On the LHD version it's nicely integrated setup into the wrap round dash extension.
