Change light to 12v supply?
Hello
Ducato van that has a light I don’t need.
Can I take this out and use the wires to put in a cigarette lighter to power things?
Would wires be too thin to supply a tyre compressor?
Keen to have some idea of what’s in there before I take it part.
TIA

Not having exact knowledge on the wiring to that light in a Ducato , I would think it very unlikely the wiring in a vehicle built with CAD and modern cost control factors would have the leeway to deal with current needed for a tyre compressor . So short answer is NO :)

Have a look at the gauge of the wires and the size of the fuse protecting the circuit. I think it will be unlikely but worth checking.

Thanks all - will buy a new compressor with longer leads…

Compressor can pull too many amps - you are best getting quality gauge extension.
I have chunky croc clips to 12v socket stored next to leisure battery.

I would never use crock clips in a van, dangerous things to easy to get a spark and end up with a fire.
Tend to agree with you... long term.
But surely it would be safer to use croc clips straight onto battery short term to use air compressor than plug said air compressor into an inadequate 12v socket..
Just my thoughts..

That light is most likely LED and a current draw of 1 or 2 amps
Tyre compressors generally have a current draw of around 15 amps.
A definite no.
It could be used for a USB socket or two.
