I'm a newbie
Hi everone. I'm on my first trip away, France, in my new to me moho. Today was 36° as was a couple of days last week and in this heat my fridge struggles. I had the bright idea to put a piece of 50mm celotex on the out side to try and help, but am worried i might be doing more harm than good. Must say i think it is helping ,but not sure. I have added a pic.
Ps, why i took a sheet of celotex, i'm not sure, i think it was in the 'just in case list'
Any thoughts:)

Only effective if the sun is on that side. I always try to park so it's on the shadier side of the van when it's hot.

It needs airflow and usually the setting turned down NOT up in hot weather.
Taking off the outer grills may help a little, consider installing fans later on. (y)

There is heat being generated from the pipework behind the fridge and you are effectively helping the heat to be retained in the space behind the fridge.
Your better off keeping the sun off the area with the awning and removing the top and bottom vent to get more airflow through to take the heat away.

I carry a folding photographes reflector and if the sun is unavoidably on the fridge I deploy it without blocking the vents and it does make a difference by keeping the sun off the back of the fridge.
Very light and folds up small

Most of the heat in the chimney behind the fridge is created by the fridge. I've recently added a pair of fans to my top grill to extract the air. I have a Bluetooth sensor dangling in the middle of the chimney to see how warm it gets. As well as one inside the fridge.

Today in Norfolk it hit 31C. On hookup, so the fridge is on electric. With the vents shaded by the awning and the fans running, it was still 10C warmer in the chimney than outside.

The fridge crept up to 7C. But we were opening it fairly frequently to get drinks and add more water to be chilled.
