Caxton Card Problems?

Has anyone been experiencing any problems with Caxton in Spain?

Just had my card refused twice in Lidl, rushed back in a panic to log on to the site, thinking all me money had been stolen, but no it's all still there. There is nothing ring-fenced in the pending column either.

Hi Sandra, we have been using our Caxton Cards for withdrawing cash and for making purchases in Spain without any problems for the past few months.
We did have a problem last year which turned out to be a damaged Chip on the card.

Thanks Brisey. We have used it without any problems up to today, paying for groceries, buying fuel and at cash machines. The pin was confirmed as correcto, so I am a bit puzzled as to what was wrong.

Luckily I had my main bank card with me so didn't have the embarrassment of having to walk off without the shopping.

Caxton says:
Avoid using your card for
Security deposits, automated petrol stations, toll booths, car rentals and hotel room deposits.
and
Petrol Stations
Although you can use your Caxton Card at automated petrol pumps, please be advised that an amount of €120-€500 may be held for up to 20 days on your card. The merchant should release the hold when settling the transaction and debiting the correct amount from your card.

I don't think so as it was operated by a human and it shows on the pending list on your account if anything has been held. Will try it again somewhere else.

OK, we had a problem a couple of times with our Halifax Clarity card. It was something to do with the shop's terminal. We phoned Halifax and they confirmed there was no problem with the card.

Caxton confirmed to a friend that Lidl have problems accepting Caxton cards, apparently it's only ar random stores

Yes I had similar with Revolut card the other day. Used it in Mercadona , then round to petrol station.No problems . Went in the sparshop/ferreteria next & machine wouldn't accept it. Used it again in Mercadona yesterday so know it is there machine. Always good to have other cards/cash as embarrassing otherwise.

A (very) few places here in Portugal don't accept MasterCard.

Revolut is a MasterCard.

"Do you accept MasterCard?"

If the answer is yes... no problem.

We had the same problem in Lidl at Rojales south of Alicante. We were mortified because we had to run back to the van to get another card and kept a long queue waiting. We were really worried but it turned out there was no problem. Must have been Lidl's terminal.

The only place to not accept my (Mastercard) Caxton is still the Lidls in Los Alcázaeres. No problems anywhere else.
