I have been thinking of moving my motorhome to a CaSSOA platinum rated storage site due to the council making my lane one way, the opposite way to which it used to be, which means I can now only get the motorhome out by driving down the lane the wrong way.
I have just spoken to my insurers and they want an extra £150 for the remaining 4 months of my policy plus an approved tracker fitted to insure it at the CaSSOA site.
Does that sound right ?

It could be because the site is in a higher risk postcode area.

Have you tried talking to the council and getting your local councilor involved.

My insurers (NFU) make no allowance for CASSOA ratings, it is all about post code. The tracker is optional but did get me a discount.

No.

You would expect your insurance to decrease if you store on a CASSOA registered site.

I can only imagine it's a post code issue, crime in the site postcode is higher than your home post code ??
I'd hunt around for a better insurer

I use Comfort Insurance, the premium to store at my home was considerably more than to store on a protected site
(Not a CASSOA Certified site, but at CASSOA level of security)

However getting a professionally fitted Tracker is something that most insurers insist on any van less than about 10 years old.

I'd recommend that you get VanBitz to fit a Metatac tracker.
To save your fingers a lot of walking once you have looked into all the options, that will come out as the best, and probably not the most expensive either.
(You can make a short holiday out of it, as they have a campsite right next door)

(Don't fit a car tracker, and don't go to a company that only fit cars, you have a specialist vehicle so you need a specialist to fit the right one.)

Yes I did before the one way lanes direction was altered.
Unfortunately it didn't get me anywhere.
The storage site claim they have never had a theft.

How far do you have to drive the wrong way to get out?
If only a few hundred yards could you get your other half to block the lane with a car until you have driven out.

Yes I've been to Cornish farm as Vanbitz fitted solar, smart shunt and B2B for me.
My motorhome is 2006 and doesn't need a tracker to be insured at my home address by my present insurers.

I live alone.
What I have been doing is getting the van out before 6am, driving the wrong way 50 yards to where I can turn round then turning round and driving back down the lane the correct way past my place.
There is a wall that stops me turning right out of my place.
If it wasn't for the wall I could turn right and be out of the lane immediately as I was the last property on the lane when the lane was the opposite direction now I'm the first property.

I think your insurer is doing what insurer's do. They see you in a predicament and instead of trying to help out they see it as a money making exercise. Changing your insurance details when mid term is always going to cost.
I think your best bet is if you can hang on untill your policy runs out then just do a search online for a new policy and give the storage site postcode as your place of storage. You could just for reference do a search now for new cover just to get an idea of price.
But I wouldn't cancel or change your current insurance before it expires because it will cost you too much.

I live in Wales so I'm used to being used as a cash cow where motoring is concerned lol.

I live in Wales. Have mine stored at blue self storage. No tracker or alarms. Insured with comfort insurance I think it was around £300.

I've just done an online quote with Comfort.
Nearly £200 per annum cheaper with it stored at the CaSSOA storage site than I'm paying for it stored at home.
Obviously my insurers are the problem.
Now to see how much it is to cancel my present insurance.

That's exactly the quote I've just got from Comfort, £305 with an alarm, stored at Blue Storage Wentloog Cardiff.
My present insurers are obviously not "au fait" with motorhomes.

Blue is very good. 24 hour access. Wash bays. Hose to fill your tank. Black and grey disposal. Free air. My van has been there about 7 years now.

Probably better if you can manage till the policy runs out naturally. They won't let you go for cheap.

I agree. Also plenty of services such as van cleaners and habitation checks, tyre guys etc on site most days, so you don't even have to take the van anywhere to get things done.

Just spoken to my insurers and if I cancel now with 5 months left on the policy, I paid in full, I will get back £13 and lose this years no claims.

OT did I talk to you at Skysea campsite, Port Eynon, a couple of months back when you were filling your fresh water tank ?
You said a friend of yours with a motorhome lived in Whitchurch just down the road from me.

Like I said, if you can hang on till your current insurance runs out it would work out cheaper for you.
I'm not recommending you do this but if I were having trouble where my van was parked I would just put it in storage and not worry about my insurance till it run out. Only thing is, is if it gets damaged when it's in storage you won't be covered.
You pay your money you take your chance. 🤞

Yes and they don't even take cash anymore you have to pay by card 🤣
I would have thought they'd have been more advanced and demanded you carried your mobile around permanently so their app could count the number of breaths you took!

I'm finding it difficult to visualise a situation where it is only possible to exit your property in one direction. Can the offending wall be altered to allow manoeuvring out without issue?

No it can't unfortunately.
I think I'm going to put up with the situation until my present policy runs out at the end of February then change insurers, possibly to Comfort, and move the van to the storage compound.

I am with comfort and moving my van to a platinum site (probably same one) it was £15 cheaper than being on my drive (private can’t be seen from the road), and a £25 admin fee! So ended up costing me £10

Sounds a bit harsh or, as has been mentioned, them just trying it on a bit?

My insurance is only £300 odd with zero no claims (first year owning a motorhome) for the year, but my insurer (Grove & Dean) insisted on CaSSOA Gold storage and tracker, which they provided free of charge. I can't imagine a situation where removing it from very secure storage would increase my liability and premium 🤷‍♂️

I have recently decided to keep my moho on the drive rather than in storage. I phoned Comfort expecting to be faced with an increase in premium, but to my surprise was informed that there would be no increase and because I was keeping it at home then the contents would now be covered. It appears that all of the time it was in storage (10 years) the contents were not insured.

So Check the insurance terms so you know exactly what you are covered for.
