Carthago Compactline
Exp
I’m a newbie
What is the difference between a Carthago C tourer and a Carthago Compactline. I know the Compactline is narrower than the C tourer, just wanted peoples opinions on what they thought of both models. I have a LHD Compactline 38 transverse bed 6.4 m long 2.12 wide, but im looking at a RHD C Tourer i150 with large bed
I know its longer and wider, just want other peoples views

The 2023 model year the Compactline & C Tourer the spec & trim is virtually identical, we have a Compactline i141 on order mainly for the size.
The C Tourer does have the Merc option in the larger ones.

Thanks for that. I need to stay below 3500kg as I am old now, but if I think about it, I can always go the D4 driver route. You may not remember me, I was the lady with the LHD compactline who had problems with the lights not being aligned to suit the MOT test station. I have read quite a few posts elsewhere about folk with the same vehicle as me having the same problem, and I have been able to pass on the information I got from this forum. so thanks again.

Bed will be lengthwise apposed to transverse, another mtr longer so ours is 7.4mtrs, so a bit more space upfront for dining and aft of kitchen. A lot more overhang after the rear axel to be wary of, massive garage but unless you have the heavy chassis allowing a larger payload, then you would be wise to not put too much weight/stuff in the garage.

I would advise through experience to get a recent weighbridge certificate before handing over any dosh as Carthago's are nearly always heavier than stated, but I guess you already know that being an owner already.
Lovely vans, well built, really quiet on the road, but for me payload is the main issue, needing upgrading more often that not, adding more cost & hassle.

Oh yes I remember.

If you want to run legally at 3500kg you will have to forget about the C Tourer, not practical unless you are running solo.
We gave up with the idea of trying to run a Compactline at 3500kg, not really possible unless you travel very light or run overweight, ordered it on the 4250kg chassis.

I'm a recent purchaser of a 138 Compactline but I could easily be tempted by the 7m Merc based 143 C tourer! The look and style of the internal fittings on the current models are virtually identical - but the C Tourer is a touch wider inside and the beds are lengthways.

I think I will have to go down the line of D4driver. Quite a few vans I fancy are over the 3500 mark. Even just going away for a long week end in my van by the time you have loaded up all the gear, other half and big fat dog plus beer and food I suspect that we are very close to being over .

I haven't had time to weigh mine yet but reckon it's over 3500kg even with a basic packing list inside.

You will be well over, a friend has a 138 he weighed it 3505 with the two of them (less than 100kg) ½ water only spare wheel & chairs & table in the garage and a bit of food & one change of clothes.

Carthago's always come out of the factory around 130kg over weight.

My Carthago belonged to my brother. Judging by what he had in the garage, less his motorbike, he must have been running well overweight. To be honest I have just looked at the V5 to be doubly sure its 3500kg !! Still Im in no hurry, not even put this one up for sale yet, but thats going to be another story Im sure.

I ran my i143 at 3500kg for a while. It was very tight and only possible with a fair bit of weight being carried behind in the toad. We decided it was too difficult and upped it to 3850kg. Just had 3 months of me not being allowed to drive it because of a heart attack/stent but passed my Stress Test so I can share the driving next time out. Health and over 3500kg is certainly something to bear in mind, my heart attack was very unexpected and the stress test is not a walk in the park. The Consultant said a lot of people of my age (72) do not manage the 9 minutes.

We have a new C Tourer i150. We had it weighed at the start of our two week UK trip. About 100l of water, 1/2 tank of fuel, two electric bikes in the back about 20kg each. Food and clothes for two weeks. Chairs ,table and cables but not an overly stuffed garage. Came in at 3860kg, 1680 front and 2160 rear axles. Excluding driver and passenger ( both about 65 kg each). We are on the heavy chassis updated to 4500kg so still plenty of payload. No way would we get away with the 3500 option on the C Tourer.

I think they only offer the 3500kg C Tourer option on the 141 and 143 models, ie the shorter ones, not the 150 - but I suspect even those are very optimistic!

My Compactline 138 with full water, fuel, 2 E-Bikes, spare'tyre', plus the usual food/clothes and we are a whisker under 3500Kg. Access restrictions overseas on stuff over 3500Kg plus my advancing years make me stick to that rather than uprating.

You could get a compactline super lightweight which gives you a bit more capacity

We have a Compactline i138 on order. No awning or satellite dish. We are planning on getting full air suspension and levellers.

I am working on the idea that we can stay below 3,500. If necessary should be no problem to upgrade.

The air & levelers will add 100kg no way will you be under 3500kg.

Our i141 (if we ever get it) on the 4250kg chassis it's actually 16kg lighter than on the 3500kg chassis. Strange but true.

Our original order was cancelled but managed to pick up one Go European has on order that their customer cancelled & got it at 2022 prices.

I had to accept the chassis spec but was able to change the hab spec which meant it's on a 3500kg chassis and worst thing is it's right hand drive.
Still had to wait nearly another year for it and finally picked it up last June.

Loaded it up and weighed it I was only 300kg over, 200kg on the rear axle. It's in at the moment having Semi Air on the rear & E&P Jack's fitted. Then I can upgrade to 4000kg with the rear axle going up to 2240kg. It has the VB front struts and drives well.

Generally pleased with we do find the lounghme a bit cramped, the shower works well for a swing wall type. Underfloor storage is good and the garage is a decent size for such a small van.

Yes they have dropped the Compactline and split the C Tourer into two ranges.
