Hi everybody.

Please see attached photos. I'm trying to use the water pump for the first time and the pump is making a gurgling sound, it can't be right. I've noticed this piece of plastic looks too have sheared off the housing. The pump worked on handover but now it doesn't sound great but I know you have to air the system out so I'm not sure if the gurgling sound is normal?

Any help would be great as we're now living in the van 🫣

Cheers

I think without this filter attached the system is pulling air through rather than water, and not creating a vacuum. Am I anywhere near to being right?
I agree. That filter and plastic housing needs to be fitted to the inlet pipe finger tight to create a water tight seal. Otherwise you are pulling air in there instead of water from the pump.

Although the pump on ours fitted by Carthago is made by Lillie, it is actually the same as a Shurflo. Probably made under licence and rebranded. The complete filter fitting is like this, available on Amazon, as well as other places. Just check the size first.

This is another type that has the barbed end to push into the pipe and threaded the other end to attach to the pump. You might be able to get just the clear plastic housing.

Agree with the others, the strainer is easily obtainable, £10 or so. Usual issue is that if not drained down for winter the water within it may freeze and crack the housing. When replacing take care to ensure the O ring is positioned correctly, even a tiny gap will let air in, and then the pump may not prime. I use a tiny bit of foodsafe silicone grease, or vaseline to hold it place while screwing the cap on.

The filter should be removed and drained before winter, if not used. At least that’s what I was told during handover and this is what I do, if the MH is not heated.

Maybe worth mentioning, that a short while ago I had an issue with the virtually identical Shurflo unit.

Although obviously not relevant in this case, it is worth checking the body of the unit for hairline cracks, . . . . . such was the root of my particular problem.

I changed the entire unit. I can't recall the actual cost but it was less than a tenner, and as 'Russell's dad' suggested, I bought two.

More than likely down to low temperatures, over a prolonged period, causing the water trapped in the housing to freeze ?

Always keep a spare pump and filter housing in the van, you never know when a funster will need on eh ShiftZZ ??
Which reminds me I need to look at my pump, it’s pulsing and the shower water is going hot and cold with the pulse, anyone else had this??
