Carthago Liner-for-t
I've read all the recent posts regarding motorhome insurance.
Carthago Liner-for-two 2022 2.2L 180 bhp Auto. Cat 1 and Tracker.
Can anyone with a similar vehicle tell me who they insure with?
At renewal I always shop around but have only ever found 2 companies who will quote

NFU insured me when I had a Carthago A Class. This alternative thread has more info.

I have the same MH, but in a different country so I can’t help you with my insurer, but I’d be curious to compare the pricing, if you don’t mind.
It costs me the equivalent of 2100 GBP (which I find too much) for the following:

  • Third party liability incl. bonus protection
  • Accidental Damage (Comprehensive cover) incl. bonus protection
  • Partial Casco
  • Roadside Assistance
How much is it in the UK?

Edit: just read the quotes in the other thread :) and they seem to cover a big range… I guess finally it is down to the specific model and the long text in the insurance conditions…

Hi,
The company I use is Safeguard. For comprehensive with two drivers with me paying first £1200 in any claim it's around £2,,400. Must have full alarm and tracker.

Hi,
NFU wouldn't quote because of the vehicle's value.

We have been with Comfort for the last 7 years, premiums are fair, have not risen as much as many others have reported. UK/EU Breakdown cover included as an add on.
Seems to be the cost of windscreen cover on A Class that is putting some insurers to either increase premiums or not offer cover, we have a C Class so not affected so much.
Good luck to OP, its always a great help to know who eventually offers good cover for a fair premium, so please let us know who you end up with.(y)

You’re probably stuck with 3 underwriters, Axa, ERS and if lucky NFU. NFU can be funny but more of that in the post which was linked previously. Insurance is a big mystery, but regrettably a must have in life.
I have found the following brokers to be the most helpful and not put off by value:

ERS - Buckingham Insurance Services
Axa - Adrian Flux
NFU - Peterbourgh branch

Good luck!

Yeah but Mihai we can add another vehicle onto the same policy (plate) for pretty much no additional cost, the benefit of single plates/dual vehicles😉

We have a Liner for Two on an Iveco, £2500 fully comp through the CAMC insured at home. £220k value, £1800 excess, unlimited glass cover, no breakdown included. This was the best price we could get, I have held HGV class 1 licence for thirty years with 20 years plus no claims on other motorhomes. It seemed most wanted 1-1.5% of value when we shopped around. I used to use NFU who were always under £1000 but they wouldn't quote for this one.

Ours was similar

Think we might be being treated harshly by the industry when compared to our last boat.....

1% of value doesn’t strike me as outrageous. Unwelcome but not outrageous.
I agree, I wouldn't like to take on that element of risk for 1%.

We would like a Morelo for our next van but are getting quotes of 7-8k, that would be a step to far for us though at around 3-5 thousand miles per year. With servicing we could be looking at around £200 a week plus the depreciation on the van😮 But as the wife says, you can't take it with you😄

I've been totally put off ever contacting Adrian Flux again after they quoted me " in excess of £6,000" to insure my BMW Admiral insured it for slightly over £900.

Yep, that’s insurance for you. But as far as AF are concerned they seem to be one of the only ones who can talk high value to Axa, your options are very limited as you are finding out. I was even worse, NFU didn’t want to know, Axa was limiting me to 92 day European trips and I had an £11.5k windscreen claim with ERS luckily and very surprisingly ERS were cheaper than last year so a pleasant surprise 😳 until I had to physically fork it out.

It's a crazy business as that is 10 times what we are paying, OK ours isn't new anymore so £100k less in value but even still

Our Compactline is insured for £130k with NFU £720 but that is for only 8000 miles, going to have to up that as in the first 4½ months we have done 5000.

With NFU only a few branches will insure Motorhomes, Chichester & Louth are a couple.

Hmmm I thought they must be same class…. But now as I’m typing I realize it’s actually the same category, and both the motorhome and my car are passenger vehicles… never thought about moving the car on the same plate until now…. 🤦‍♂️

thanks!

NFU are a strange bunch. I was insured with them years ago when I owned an N&B Flair. Tried last year and the reason the Underwritter declined was due to engine size. This year after trying another branch they declined to cover due to not having any other business with them and my request for 10k miles per annum, their expectation of a vehicle this value was around 4K - 5k per annum. Things constantly change from branch to branch and underwriters opinion on the day.

I think it is simply that some NFU branches don’t like doing motorhome business. They are all privately owned tied agents with their own business plans and aspirations. It is clear that some are happy to do motorhome business and others will dodge any complications. Some branches that are happy to do motorhome business have already been named above.

We are with NFU but I know some people struggle to get cover with them and I know certain offices are mentioned as being better than others, I asked our broker about this last point and they said that actually there should be no difference as they all propose business through the same underwriter, we concluded that the only difference must be the way that business is presented to the underwriter.

I agree there should be no differences but some agencies just don’t seem as interested as others. Perhaps high value and big engined vehicles are outside the standard parameters and are no longer accepted or perhaps they just involve more effort?

Motorhome Direct are trying to get into the motorhome insurance market. They were called A Plan Insurance until recently.

They were hundreds of pounds cheaper than Comfort for us, for insurance through Aviva, even though they have to pay a commission to Comfort to access Aviva policies.
The insurance certificate even has Victor Milwell printed in the corner (Comforts owners).
They do also insure high value motorhomes.

My findings are not with the branches, those that I have tried in the past have been those recommended by others. It’s the inconsistency of the underwriters and the differing reasons they give each year why they decline to cover. Both this year and last I was given prices for cover from branches but the price had caveats to be underwriter approved and that’s when you get differing rules and opinions.
