We have one in build but opted not to have the factory fitted air suspension fitted due to cost.

Currently own a Burstner 680g 4250kg rated which benefited hugely from VB rear air to offset some of the roll we experienced, it made a huge difference.

My question is for other Carthago owners - how do you find the drive without air?

Should say ours is ordered on the Mercedes chassis so 7.89 metres

Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

I’ve had four Carthagos. The first was on a 4250kg chassis and it rode fine. I had rear semi-air fitted but didn’t really notice any difference to the ride if I’m honest. That puts me at odds with most people who have fitted semi-air, but that’s just my opinion.

The next three have all been tag axles at 5000 or 5500kgs and that’s a whole different experience with a much smoother and stable ride in my opinion. None have had full air. One had semi air on the rear to upgrade to 5500kg but I didn’t think there was any improvement in ride quality.

They have all been a much quieter and pleasant driving experience than motorhomes I had previously owned… a Hymer and two Autotrails.

I’d give it a go without air and see what you think. You can always fit semi or full air to the rear if you think it’ll improve things, but not sure you can have full air on the front t of the Mercedes chassis.

I find mine, on the Mercedes chassis, great to drive. Very smooth, quiet and no rattles!! I’ve had fitted, E&P levellers and a Victron inverter but don’t feel the need for air suspension.
