Hi everyone. Just acquired an old compass navigator van. It currently has wood laminate flooring which is ok for us but a bit slippery for our 11 year old boxer/staffie Roman. Can anyone recommend a decent carpet tile preferably self adhesive, not too thick as I want to stick over the laminate?

We looked at some very nice/plush carpet tiles but never went ahead, so good ones are doable. You get get commercial carpet tile glue that is tacky but the tiles can be removed easily. That glues does mark the base floor though so may not be ideal - but low tack double sided tape may work well.

Remember flooring can move/expand etc so don't go tight at the edges

If you cut them to fit well you won't need to stick them down. We don't use them but instead have some of the cotton twill type rubber backed door mats/runners, easy to take out and shake and especially useful if there's been an 'accident' that needs cleaning off (not necessarily a doggy one but spilt sauce etc).

Also easier to replace than carpet tiles as the latter tend to lose their colour over time so can look patchy if you have to replace odd ones.

With a good quality gel backing, you could lay runners as opposed to tiles, which would be non slip anyway, rather than need sticking down.

We are in the process of changing our contoured loose lay carpets today, for a commercial rubber/gel non slip backed carpet, which is waterproof, and stain proof. The supplier will use our existing ones as templates for the new ones. (y)

Good luck finding what suits you, without damaging the laminate flooring. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Cut carpet to shape and whip the edges, can be held down with various options if you wish (press studs, double sided tape etc) but they don’t really need anything.

If you can get a carpet fitter to cut in situ but for larger areas you may have to use wall lining paper to make a template leaving a gap around all edges to allow for the whipping (around 10mm but check with whoever is whipping it)

Same here, we have "runners", as you say easy to take outside to shake/clean.
