There must be a few on here who have had this done and I would like to ask, rather than the doctors a couple of questions.
How long after the procedure can you ride a bike and drive an auto van safely

It’s two to three weeks when your stitches are removed if you’re comfortable.

My sister is a dog trimmer and had to wait a month to get back part time and about 3 months back to full work

once the big bandage is off and there is only a large plaster covering the area you can do most things apart from getting it wet. Once stitches came out used bio oil on the scar.

My sister just had a pacemaker fitted, she had her arm in a sling for 2 weeks and can't drive for 6, I don't remember anything like that when I had mine done. Its a much simpler op I would presume that CT surgery.

Correct.
I had it done to my right hand about 10 years ago.
It was a complete success and I have had no bother since (although my left hand is now giving me problems)
I had mine done on a Thursday and was back to work (including driving) on the Monday.
It was probably not the correct thing to do, but I felt fine and didn't see it as a major risk.

Wife has had both done and was 3 to 4 weeks before she could use them again properly for washing up and hoovering.
House got in a right state, i wasnt impressed at all.
On a serious note , she has ended up with severe nerve damage in both hands following the procedure.
Just very painful . No amount of therapy or drugs has helped unfortunately.

Unfortunately the procedure is not always a success for everyone.
I was fortunate that I got a good surgeon and that mine healed up very quickly.

Had both wrist done, and an elbow nerve decompression at the same time The stitches burst on the first one, but that was my fault as impatiently I was trying to do to much to soon, that was 15 years ago. The other wrist was two years ago, more circumspect this time, gave it a couple of weeks to heal, just pottered round the van doing some odd jobs. All fine now, and much relief with sleeping better.

I had both of mine done years ago back to normal after a week or so but the area was very tender for a couple of months but had to get back to work as I was self employed so no sick pay for me 🤣

Had both of mine done at the same time after all the tests indicated carpel tunnel. First wrist done - moved to second, about to start and realised he'd forgotten the anesthetic! No improvement in either wrist, in fact one hand much worse. A couple of years later spinal cord damage was found - that was probably the problem, not carpel tunnel. 2 titanium rods and clips later....

My wife had injections of cortisone in her wrist twice over several years, the second injection really hurt and had little effect. We visited a homeopathic Doctor in India shortly afterwards who gave a whole body massage and concentrated on the side of her neck where the nerves come out from the spine. He claimed this was where her problem lay and in all fairness her pain was relieved and has not returned over the last seven years. She was dreading the operation which is no longer necessary. She was a nurse and her advice and treatment in the UK was applied by a consultant and later by a GP. I do not advocate the treatment she had and consider she was lucky in removing the dreadfull pain of carpel tunnel syndrome.

Had both of mine done at the same time. Took about 20 minutes. For me it was almost life changing to be pain free in the early hours of the morning when it affected me most.
Using the loo was an interesting experience especially when wearing elbow length rubber gloves but that’s another story.
Was back to normal once the big bandages were off after about a week

I had bad carpel tunnel in both hands and advised to have the operations, as I’m in a wheelchair I had to give it some serious thought, at the time I was seeing a physio on a different matter and they showed me a technique for straightening my back and particularly my neck as I had a nerve rubbing on a disintegrating vertebrae… I did the exercise and as a result my carpel pain had vanished in a week….🤷🏼‍♂️

That was over ten years ago…😎

What the consultant won’t tell you is if it is your dominant hand you need to practice using toilet paper with your other hand.
I had a torn tendon in my right shoulder when repaired had arm in sling for 6 months and Denise wouldn’t help with certain things😂 ps I’m right handed and in that 6months it was never comfortable

I did forget to say that I’ve tried various exercises over the last couple of year’s and nothing has helped. It started when I had zolidex injections for prostate cancer and the surgeon told me that carpel tunnel was one of the side effects, the biggest relief is hot water over wrist especially in the night

I think I was back driving (a manual) within a week of the surgery on my left wrist. I certainly drove to the hospital after 9 days to have the stitches out. It's going to depend on the amount of pain you have post-op and whether the pain stops you gripping things properly.

The important thing is to keep the stitches and wound dry. They put on a good dressing, but I showered with my hand taped into a plastic bag over the dressing. Also, the dressing will probably start to peel after a few days - I was given a spare to replace it with but then ended up buying some more on Amazon (Opsite Plus post-op dressings of the appropriate size).

cheers, and good luck!
