Caravan crash. Scary.

Yet another dickhead, it's amazing how many believe that having the ability to buy a powerful vehicle automatically means they know how to drive it properly and safely and lose control when their speed outweighs their talent.

A proper advance driving or towing course could have avoided the inevitable outcome and might have cost less than the premium hike over the following years.

Dickhead. (No, not me the driver ??)

bloody awful i hope they were ok and only a bit shook up. i bet he's learnt a lesson from that. I've had them come past my arctic like that swaying and snaking but never had one flip over as yet.?

Looks to me like they piled all the stuff into the rear cupboards and the weight went to rear, a sure fire recipe for a bad snaking accident.

We passed the location of where this happened while on our way down to deepest Cornwall. Caravan is still on the side of the road looking pretty messed up. Must have been awful.

I m in the "it was a self inflicted" incident if the speed was anything like what it appeared to be.

A towing course may have helped in that it would have taught the driver to not go so fast.

There is some sympathy for the passengers but not a lot for the driver and there would have been quite an amount of sympathy for the people who he/she might have hit if he/she had rolled onto the opposite carriageway.

Hopefully a learning experience for him/her

I was driving down a long hill in Yorkshire some years ago and there was a small section of dual carriageway ,as soon as he could the car and caravan behind me passed me at speed then a few minutes later an ambulance passed me . I said to my wife that’s for that caravan ,then we came across the caravan on its side in a big ditch and the car had been rolled. It was an old boy driving and it looked like his mrs.was still in the car .

Never ceases to amaze me when on the motorway at the speed some people go with a trailer on.
I don't think they know that their legal speed limit is 60 and they are not allowed in the outside lane.
Been passed a few times by tuggers when I'm in cruise control at 70.
Get what they deserve.

The astonishing video clip shows the caravan swerving violently from side to side before rolling several times

Usual lazy reporting.... The caravan only rolled 1/2 a turn... Onto its roof.
The 4x4 didn't fair so well.

Saw a caravan on its side on the M1 a few years ago.
Just a regular single axle average sized van........ Being towed by a Honda acti/Suzuki Carry, also on its side. Presumably put on its side by the weight of the van being considerably heavier than the Honda/Suzuki.

It usually occurs on deceleration as the vehicle gets on a downslope , the bow wave of the camera vehicle might also have been a factor . It happens on the A34 near the Ridgeway in Berkshire on a regular basis, a very undulating dual carriageway . Over the decades I have witnessed it twice on that stretch .

Caravan { and Motorhome } Tyre and Wheel Safety Checks on You Tube.

Also note a caravan can stand for a significant amount of time and the tyre can become distorted { bent } so even though the tread is good etc the tyre doesn't roll true which is dangerous.

There was only the driver in the vehicle, wonder what if it had been stolen?????

From the video it looks to have been going at speed, certainly over 60 so he may get charged with speeding, driving recklessly etc (or whatever the correct terms are!) and he may also find his insurance was voided ....

I'm please he's okay but I suspect his wallet won't fare so well!

Same here, these 'idiots' don't realise it's not just having a vehicle that's able to pull the caravan that's important, its being able to control the 'tail' and slow down that's the biggest consideration.

Many moons ago, dad took me and my kids on holiday to Brean sands. On a downhill he decided to put in a bit of speed to get up the other side. He was experienced, luckily, it snaked as we started to go up, he just managed to get it back under control. He did say it was one of his life’s scary moments! Another reason why we mh.

Local news here reported there were 2 people and a dog in the vehicle. All were ok.
