I think the last few years have made a few companies realise that it is not sensible to to rely quite so heavily on one country for so many vital components and finished goods, if this gives a bit of choice and competition in the markets it can only be a good thing in my book, an added bonus would be that some more production could come back to UK and Europe.

I think manufacturing will only come back if we match the wages in India , Thailand and Vietnam.

I fear you might be right for some products but there are other areas where we can challenge to myth that everything has to come from China, Vietnam etc etc, I recently fitted a few Drayton Wiser thermostatic radiator valves, I chose Drayton partly as their products are made in the UK, I don't pretend that every electronic component inside is UK but every little helps in my view.

I have a few British watches and again I don't kid myself that every component is British made as I know it isn't but it is a step in the right direction, OK if you want a British watch you might have to pay more than you would for a Chinese made "Rolex" copy but that is not always the case with other products as there are cost saving to be made with a shorter supply chain and less middle men taking a cut and ramping up the price of Chinese made goods to match European manufactured prices.

Yup, and the m/h manufacturers being over reliant on one manufacturer like Fiat and pleased to see that is already changing

Ordered a new Skoda in June, told delivery would be first week in September (think he told me that just to get the sale, but I knew he was ‘stretching’ the truth anyway), didn’t hear a thing from the dealer until I rang, first week in October, asking for update.

Due for build this month (thanks for telling me)…..then nothing until the first week of December….car finally picked up on 13th.

Shortage of parts to blame…..some Skoda models are taking twice that long.
