Like Lenny says, anytime................but don't validate the ticket until you are all sorted and ready to leave, as you only get about 15-20 mins. ;)

Enjoy the trip. (y)

Jock. :)

Take your ticket at the barrier; find your space; enjoy your stay; pay the fee to validate the ticket; use the ticket at the barrier to leave.

T answer the 'how much'. It is now £3.50 for any period 0000-2400, so if overnight it would be £$ for day of arrival and again for departure. The charge period used to be 24 hours from entry.

I believe there is a Council proposal to increase to £4, but has not yet been agreed.

I do not understand what you said about the 15-20 mins., as whenever I have used the P+R once you have paid the ticket is valid for the bus and for exit up to its expiry, which is now midnight.

Has something changed?

Geoff

Geoff, you do not pay at all when collecting the ticket, but you need to validate the ticket just prior to leaving.
I unwitting validated the ticket before getting on the bus on a Saturday morning years ago. On the Sunday morning, the exit barrier would not accept the ticket. When I spoke to the control centre via the intercomm, it became apparent, that I had validated the ticket far too soon.

You only need to validate it just before you leave.................as do all the car owners, ie, bus into town (showing the ticket to the driver), bus back from town, validate and pay the ticket, then drive out the exit. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

BTW, AFAIK, the ticket is valid for up to 48 hrs max.

Jock. :)

You are both right, used in a car a couple of weeks ago you can validate the ticket anytime, the problem occurs when you stay after midnight.

It changed some time ago Pete. (y)

Timetable

  • Monday to Saturday: Buses run every eight minutes, from 7am to 7.30pm.
  • Sunday: Every 15 minutes, from 10am to 6pm
If you're watching a cricket match at the Spitfire Ground, there will be a special service between the New Dover Road site and the cricket ground for home games and evening T20 matches, including additional buses on Sundays at 6pm, 6.15pm and 6.30pm. It costs just £3.50 for a car and up to six people. You will also be able to catch any Stagecoach bus back to the Park and Ride site from any stop along New Dover Road heading out of the city - just show your car park ticket to the driver.

On non-match days, your ticket is also valid on Stagecoach buses for routes 15, 16, and 17 between 7.30pm and 11.30pm, Monday to Saturday.

You can't enter the car park after 8.30pm but you can exit any time.

Maximum stay 48 hours.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

You might be confusing folks. Each ticket for £3.50 is valid for the period 0000-2400, but as Lenny HB says after midnight the previous day's ticket is not valid and one has to buy a new one.

The restriction of 48 hours stay. is not connected to the pricing and ticket validity regime. If you stayed 48 hours from 1200 on a Tuesday to 1200 on a Thurs you would have to pay for Tues, Wed and Thurs (3x £3.50). I do not know how they police the 48 hours rule as the Thurs ticket would let you stay till 2400 Thurs; I suspect it is a left-over from when tickets were for 24 hours from entry.

Colin Perris, the P&R manager, explained the system to me when it changed just over 2 years ago.
The charge is per calendar day but you still only need one ticket (the one you take on entry) for the whole of your stay.

As Colin said at the time:
The cost is £3 per 24 hours for a vehicle and up to six passengers, and includes free use of the Park & Ride buses.
If you arrive to park after 4pm, you will only need to pay £1 to stay until midnight.
If you stay longer than 24 hours the system adds another £3 to your ticket. There are two pay stations but please note that they do not accept credit or debit cards.

Stayed there last summer, arrived 19.00 departed next day 05.00 =£4.00,, GJH beat me to it (y)

GJH and Louis

Your info is correct, except the daily rate is now £3.50.

I forgot to mention the discounted rate after 1600 of £1 till midnight.

Colin Perris, and his team, is a great proponent of the concept. I have corresponded with him several times, both with suggestions, e.g. the second tap, and thanked him for that, access to the overflow for MHs and the new big rubbish bin.

Now we have only 2,500 councils to work on to achieve similar.

Geoff

2,500? Rather less thank goodness :)
There are 418 principal (unitary, county and district) councils in the UK – 27 county councils, 201 district councils, and 125 unitary councils.
Some of those, of course, already allow camping in some of their car parks :)

Sorry Geoff, it is you who might be confusing people. :(
Please see @GJH's post.

Sorry, but that is not accurate at all. :(

Rita and I have been using the P & R since it opened, and although the charges may have varied, not once have we had to buy another ticket. The one we enter with, is the same ticket we leave with, regardless of how many hours we stay there within the 48 x hours limit. When validated, the charges represent the charging periods during the period we have stayed there for, hence our paying £6.00, before the very recent increase.

The link below indicates the prices, however they are proportionate for the time you stay, hence Rita and I paying for part Friday, all day Saturday, and part Sunday, ie, £6.00 (prior to the increase to £3.50).

I was caught out once (my own fault) ....................but won't be caught out again.

Yes Graham, I too have corresponded with the very same chap, and also commented re the extra tap, however, I have to tell you, it was @Mavis (locovan on FACTS), who was instrumental in getting that second tap installed. She was on Colin's case all the time, being a local, as well as a regular user of the facility. (y)

We did exactly the same Jock as thought we would be clever by activating the ticket early and had to contact the number, panicking that we would miss the early morning ferry, never again.

Unless things have changed I have to say that @JockandRita experience is correct, we have used it 3 times and each time just bought one ticket and that is the ticket you leave with even if it the next day or the day after that.

It is still "cheap as chips" for a great facility, however, had you arrived after 16.00 hrs Wendy, the charge would have been £4.50, ie, £1 for the remaining hours of Sunday, and £3.50 for all of Monday.

My apologies folks. That should have read "£7.00 (prior to the increase to £3.50)."

Cheers,

Jock. :)

How safe/secure is it if we leave the van to go off site during the evening please?

Well, I am very security conscious, and I am happy to leave our MH unattended, but we do set the alarm and apply "D" locks. There is CCTV which is monitored from a central location. We've been using the facility since it opened, and have never had a problem.

Enjoy. (y)

Thank you. I used to live in Canterbury so it will be good to visit old haunts

UPDATE

I stayed there last week.

The reduced fee of £1.00 after 1600 has been cancelled as of 1st April 2018.

Both barriers have been removed and the 'Overspill' MH Parking to the right after entry is now accessible, and signed, by driving straight ahead across cordonned off cars spaces in the main CP and then right turn into the overflow.

On Wed. the original MH spaces were not qute full and 11 MHs in the overflow, which is convenient if one wishes to be more spaced out.

The two taps are off the same supply - just be aware that the one nearer the dump grid may have been contaminated by cassette rinsing so better disinfected before use.

Geoff

An absolute certainty I think Geoff. ;)
