Jim.

Seems that a lot of people think twice having started a post but before posting and then cannot get out of the post. The other forums I use all have a 'Cancel' option when writing a post that simply closes the window with no save. Every platform I have ever worked on has it as an option, sometimes with a third 'Save as Draft' option so you can come back to it, but I accept the latter needs regular housekeeping such that you don't end up with lots of them hanging about.

Of course the 'think twice before posting' principle fits in nicely with rule 1! (y)

Just thought I should put it out there, but suspect you have already looked at it at some point.

Our editor is due and upgrade, and one is being tested now by the team at XenForo the forum software engineers, but it’s a massive undertaking to have it work with every browser on every machine. Not sure if it will have cancel button. However the autosave on fun where the editor remembers what you typed already can be a lifesaver. Meanwhile.. If you want to cancel a post just highlight all the text, delete it and then click the save icon. Top right in editor, image of a small disk. Post cancelled empty editor (y)

That how to cancel should be on a sticky.

Currently the best you can do is just leave the page blank and post that.
