hi. I was looking at buying a gps tracking device for our MH but then thought, can I use our Huawei WiFi router instead? It has a unlimited data sim in so technically it should work. Can anyone help me with this question?

I wouldnt think a router would have a gps receiver. I suppose you could link an old phone to it and hide that somewhere, however DIY trackers can be got very cheaply from fleabay. It the subscription for the monitoring that costs.

I'm using a Raspberry Pi running Victron's free open source software to track my solar input and battery state. I have a GPS module stuck to the roof and this enables me to follow the 'vans location. It's with the local garage at the moment for service, belt change and MOT. Was able to track the route taken when they took it as I had 'geo-fenced' it and so received an email notification. Mifi running a Smarty £10 a month Sim is the only cost, and this is also used for the co-pilot to access her Facebook!

Ah, ok. I can just buy a GPS tracker for about £30 from Amazon and stick a PAYG sim in it I guess. I just thought if I already have a monthly sim then I may as well use it.

Some routers will have the GPS functionality - I have a Teltonika RUTX12 that I can track via their RMS app on my phone, tablet and laptop. I also have a standalone £40 GPS tracker from Amazon wired into my quad that is controlled by SMS and monitored with a freebie app, so there is no fee just the minimal cost of a PAYG giffgaff SIM card.
