New to motorhomes 2019
On our current motorhome we have a large oblong 'storage space' that is virtually useless in its location in the garage under the rear lounge, due to its access limitations. It's height is limited but width and depth virtually unrestricted. Does anyone make lifepo4 size to order? This would free up the current battery location for all the electronic goodies everyone wants but in current setup means access is VERY restricted.

I appreciate this may not be what you are looking for, but I have a similar problem in my Hymer. There is an underfloor storage space between the nearside and offside lockers, which has a very restricted height but has quite a large area. It's the double floor space. I have fitted two of these batteries, which are designed to be on their side, and all the connections and controls are on the side as well.
However their voltage is 48V, which is not very common (yet) in motorhomes. They are connected to a Multiplus 3000 inverter/charger. I also fitted a Sterling 12V-to-48V B2B to charge them from the alternator.

I have left the original 100Ah lead-acid leisure battery in place in one of the lockers, with a Victron 15A charger to keep it topped up. This charger is powered from the Multiplus inverter, from the 48V battery. I could have connected a small 200W 48V-to-12V DC-DC power supply, but I decided I wanted to keep the original habitation setup as it was. The 100Ah leisure battery charges from the original alternator/split charge relay arrangement.

In my system, the Multiplus is controlled by a Victron Cerbo GX controller, but I think that's not necessary, just a nice-to-have.

I'm sure a funster 'built' his own battery ... can't remember who though.

Lots of you tube videos showing self built batteries including off grid power solutions, which is Roger and Nigel Ivy.

I would definitely recommend you contact Roger ( he has already responded on this thread) for his advice !!

I've built my own 280ah using Eve cells from Fogstar, a JBD BMS but bought that from China, a battery box and cable from Roger and Nigel.
In my Exsis, the house battery is on the right hand side (where the drivers door would be), and I didn't want to change the original appearance of the interior. The space was too shallow (as Googlebot found out) for the battery. I also wanted to be able to change the BMS in the event of failure. So I bought a battery box, reduced the height and fitted the cells and BMS. This then fitted in the space.

I also fitted a 2000W Renogy invertor underneath the drivers seat, together with the fused busbar. This meant spending time in moving loads of 'stuff' around! The DCDC with MPPT is under the passenger seat behind the EBL.

Would I go through the learning process again? I'm not sure, but the cost involved in doing it this way would have made it too expensive an option for me.

In hand, thanks

I built a 626Ah 250 Amp battery for my Tasmanian Hymer. Takes a bit of self education and there are quite a few one use tools to do it properly (testing and top charging cells for example). I think still financially worth it, particularly in the UK where lithium batteries seem to cost more than here.
