I'm currently in Annecy and am having a mare of a day.....snapped key, dead battery, no gas, jammed passenger door and the door stay on the toad has bust.
If I change the vehicle battery can I....remove the offending battery and still leave the van on ehu?
Do the leisure batteries need to be disconnected from the van and solar?
Any recommendations for a 3.0 Fiat Ducato, I'm assuming bigger "ah" is better?
Sorry for the ramblings, it's been a long day.

You want to remove engine battery. But leave solar connected to leisure battery?
Sounds fine to me but take care in case alarm goes via engine battery and may invalidate insurance.

Is it a leisure battery or vehicle battery that you need to change? Not clear to me from your post and the advice will differ depending on which… 😊

I note your TOAD door problems and that you are in France! Do you trailer the car or flat tow? 😉

Morning, probably not the clearest of posts.
It's the vehicle battery that needs changing and the toad is on a trailer.
Thanks

You need to make sure that the vehicle battery +ve lead does not short to the chassis when you remove the battery. There will normally still be a feed from the leisure battery and EHU charger to trickle the vehicle starter battery.

Yes as post #5 Disconnect negative on battery first .I' always put inside a rubber glove & bic tie. Then do the same with the positive. If you have ehu you can temporarily unhook to prevent current flowing to starter battery. If you also have solar then you will always have current flowing to the starter battery so rubber glove method is easiest but otherwise you need to disconnect the fuses /switch off / disconnect the solar from the solar controller.

Thank you for the advice. I managed to find an appropriate battery for the princely sum of 285 euros. It's connected and being charged with a ctek mxs or something similar. The gas now works, the central locking is dead and I can only arm/disarm the alarm via the app!! The rest of day was also crap, the saga of getting a key cut would take days to tell.
Tomorrow is another day and another case of Leffe 🍻
