Afternoon all. This box marked solar looks to be factory fitted in the garage of my Rapido 7090+ RHS of consumer unit. Has two pairs of large spade terminals. Cables look to be paired. Would one pair be cell inlets ready to connect by any chance?

Looks a bit like that to me.

Martin

had a look on your roof ?
Looks like a socket for some kind of plug in controler
2 wires from roof panel
2 wires to batts
plug in controller completes and controls connections
pure guess:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Hi Geo and thanks for the reply. Sadly the roof is void of panels or any sign there ever were any. Multimeter check shows zeros volts on LHS pair. RHS showed -ve zero

One pair will be connected into your CBE control distribution board the other pair will be at high level in a locker or wardrobe for connection to a panel

On my 7090 if memory serves me the panel pair were behind a removable panel in the right side wardrobe when looking to the front
That may sound confusing but mine is left hand drive so my nearside is on the right

I have a small stand-alone cell here I could connect but wouldn’t want to do any damage.

Hi Techno. This panel has 4 screws and is near side wardrobe. Behind that I may find solar input?

My off side so your near side. Ok. I’ll look :-)

Woo hoo thanks Techno! So these are solar inputs. Does that mean all I need to do is connect my little cell to these to try it out?

Yes but there is no regulator in circuit

So is that socket for a plug in regulator ? Intrigued

No it just holds the four ends securely, you can extend from there or just replace the block with a regulator (y)

Techno - you’re saying I can add some solar but what does rectifier lack of imply?

I’m keen to slip some panels on the roof and run the wiring but not yet competent with either panel choice or running cables through the roof to the wardrobe connector. Sikaflex and gland connection? I have former but not looked into latter yet.

We’re not live aboard, so parked up 3 days max wild and running new 2 x 120Ah lead acid leisure batteries. Pretty frugal on amp usage but keen to learn......

Cheers all.....

You need a solar regulator/charge controller between the solar panel and battery

Hi Techno. Are you saying I need an MPPT controller eg victron or votronic and this to replace the box I originally posted about (so between panel and batteries)? Am quite new to this but reading up here (and asking) is very helpful!

Also thanks for the throttle body and engine cover write up Techno. Saved my bacon big time.

If you take the plastic cover off you will see it is just four wires going nowhere. The light blue and red pair should read the battery voltage if you put a meter on them. The dark blue/red pair go to your wardrobe for solar connection.
Without a regulator the two pairs are not connected together.
