After the removal of the domestic tech tower and replacing it with a compressor fridge I need some one to run a new gas line up from where the old line connected to the fridge and on to the oven above the new fridge. So do I need a specific caravan/motorhome Gas qualified eng to do the job or can I use any gas safe engineer?
I could do it myself but for insurance purposes and for piece of mind I would like a professional to do it.
There is a two month wait for my local mobile motorhome fitter but I can get a local gas safe engineer in about a week or so.

You should have a Gas Safe engineer who is registered to work on Leisure Accommodation Vehicles. It's possible to check on the Gas Safe website for engineers in your area, although there aren't too many around.

As already mentioned if a Gas Safe fitter is doing the work then they must be both LPG qualified and have the lav (leisure accommodation vehicle) .
Unfortunately not many bother with this part of the qualification and those that do often haven’t got a clue as it’s not something they do regularly.
Motorhome and Caravan fitters have a limited scope leisure industry qualification if they bother at all , they don’t have to be Gas Safe Registered.

Good call by Odd Job so Ive used the Gas Safe on line register and found one with the Caravan LPG ticks so I have asked him to take a look. It's a good job I am not in a hurry as it will be 3 4 week wait for the work to be looked at. Its only about 30 mins work at a push but its worth the wait to get the qualified engineer for the job.

Isn't it so that there is no requirement to have a 'Gas Safe' engineer ( or any other type) to do the work? That it's perfectly legal to do it yourself?

You have Autogas 2000 at Thirsk 01845 523213 they are so good I travel there for any gas problems.

The STGW qualification (replacing ACOPS) covers gas work in leisure vehicles which are not rented out. My son recently completed this.

More info here https://www.nccacademy.org.uk/stgw-gas-training-for-caravan-service

You can find leisure vehicle engineers local to you here but not all have taken the gas course.

That may be correct but I bet your insurance would use it as reason not to payout for any fire or issue that proved to be down to your own work and not that of a qualified engineer don't you think?

We have stopped doing any LPG work and it has reduced our Public Liability insurance by £3000.00. This is a fairly common problem as the level of LPG work has reduced dramatically thereby making it unviable to continue. Thames Conservancy was one of our customers & they ditched all their "workcraft" on the Thames in our area, some of the caravan sites locally have gone over to Nat Gas too.

Competent is the word you are looking for , yes it’s technically true that anyone can work on a gas installation in a privately owned Leisure vehicle.
The only major problem here is how does anyone without any training actually prove competency , plenty that blag it and shout about how they have been doing something for 30 years etc etc .
What brought it home to me is the case of the guy that killed his girlfriend and her daughter in a boat he privately owned, his crime was manslaughter as he incorrectly installed a generator and poisoned them accidentally with Carbon Monoxide.
Not as a professional or in the course of his work.
Unfortunately with what we see in our workshop it’s almost inevitable someone will be killed or seriously injured in a Leisure vehicle, now a lot will depend upon the status of that person or persons family as to the extent of the publicity and resulting change to regulations etc.
The reality is that dabbling around with gas work to save a few quid isn’t most people’s idea of sensible.
Always amazes me how even some of the most shocking examples of bad gas work are never the owners doing , it’s always the dealer or the Gas Safe guy , even their friends that has done it , but eventually after all the lies it normally slips out by mistake who is the real culprit 🤬⚠️

Who do you use to change your bottle and are their rates reasonable?
