Can an MOT centre legitimately charge more than the Gov mandated price?

Just got stung for £80 for the mot on our A645 Active for a Class 4 MOT when I questioned them they said it was because they had to use different ramps to get it done...
I am aware of the price cap on the WWW.GOV website. The HGV lane is their excuse. Seems handy that it all comes to a round £80 when the MOT was £48.85 precisely...
They also failed it on the off side CV boot which is in identical condition to the nearside which it didnt fail on and for which there was no comment or advisory...
Any advice?

They can charge what the customer is willing to pay providing it's not more than the VOSA approved fee.
Currently £54.85
If there's no written detail of the failure they are not complying to VOSA standards.
£54.85 is the max no matter what equipment they use.
Report to VOSA as a matter of principle. How many others have they overcharged.
Look for another test station, that one may not be doing them next year

Report, it. I had a vivaro on its second mot, year 4. The cocky guy failed it on a brake line, took it to vx and passed with no fault, despite telling them about previous garage. I reported the garage with the evidence from vx test. Turned out I was not the only one scammed, garage got shut down.

Just had our coachbuilt ci type motorhome mot'd at a garage that does hgv's and has a high roof, and at class 4 test it was £40.
And it passed with a couple of minor advisories.
Have used same garage for servicing and mot's on all cars and motorhome for quite a few years, and can actually talk with the mot guy afterwards, and they don't go softly on the test!
£80 seems excessive, but it's an A class, so, who knows?
But still class 4?
