Know there are a couple of CAMC campsites within the M25 but looking for places to stay outside of that which have a train station within walking distance, or a bus route, ideally around 30 minutes commute into central London - any suggestions please?

Sorry I can’t help but I’ve used CAMC Abbey Wood a number of times and it’s an excellent location, especially now with Crossrail. Daren’t look to see the prices now ☹️

It wouldn't be any good to many folks, ourselves included, with a £200 - £300 LEZ fine each way.

It's not everyone who can afford to change their MH regularly, to comply with TFLs restrictive rules. :(

Cheers,

Jock.

Abbey Wood every time for me if visiting London 😁 and near a Sainsbury’s , right next to the train station only until end of August after which it’s inside the new ulez 😤 Alex

Hi.
You will have to check if its still there, but there was a site at Hemel Hempsted a while back...... Saved you the bother...Looks like its called " CAMC..Breakspearway 'ish.... Check the links into London. Not been, but did work around there 79-80's
Tea Bag

I used the CAMC Crystal Palace site in early June for 3 nights (£25 per night), the train station is a pleasant walk across the Crystal Palace park (half to three quarters of a mile). Trains about £8 return. Buses are just across the road from the site entrance and so very close, but not sure where they run to as I didn't use them (prefer the train).

CAMC - Commons wood
15min walk to Hatfield station or 20mins to Welwyn Garden City. Around 30mins into King’s Cross.
Camping and caravan - Hertford Balls Park. Hertford is lovely and around 15/20 min walk. Similar time into London via the train.

Thank you for all the suggestions so far - looking at west side & Swiss Farm, Henley on Thames but 50 mins into London so a bit longer than wanted...

C&C Chertsey, inside the M25, but no LEZ rubbish. Fair walk or cheap taxi to train, gets you into Waterloo, and London is your Oyster card!
In fact you don't need an Oyster Card. As long as you have a UK debit card you just tap in and out with that. Works as easily as the Oyster, very slick.

It depends where you're coming from and where in London you want to get to. We live up north and have family in East London and after trying a number of different sites we eventually found that CAMC Hertford suits us best. We were also very pleasantly surprised by what a nice town Hertford is. It has 2 railway stations on separate lines into that London. North has trains to Highbury and Islington while East has trains to Liverpool Street. There's lot's of cafes, bars and restaurants to use on your way into or out of the metropolis, both stations are an easy enough walk from the site, taxis take 5 minutes.

How long do you want to stay for? Alexander gardens car park in Windsor allows overnight stays and is a short walk to the train station, other then that there are two campsites in Chertsey, Wyatts Covert at Denham, Theobalds Park CCC site near Waltham Cross, this is just outside the LEZ but you have to drive right up to the LEZ signs before turning so don't miss your turn.

The National Rifle Association have camping pitches that can be booked on Bisley camp which has Brookwood station nearby which might be worth a look.

30 minute walk or 10 minutes on a bike

We stayed at Lee Valley C&C park a coupe of years ago which was OK for London. Handy buses etc..

It’s the number 3 bus and goes all the way to Victoria via Westminster and very close to Oval tube and cricket ground. Used to be very handy for us when Claire lived near Oval. Mind you the bus takes 50 mins to an hour to get from campsite to centre so not ideal otherwise. She’s moved now and it’s no use at all.

No 3 bus…. runs about every 10 minutes straight into central London (Whitehall), runs all night as well. Cheap as chips with your contactless card or better still free with oldies bus pass. Crystal Palace just down the road has loads of shops, restaurants and bars, very vibrant kind of place. Abbey Wood area by comparison is a bit grim, nice site though.

Lee Valley - Sewerston (NOT Edmonton) is ideal because it is just inside the M25 and therefore easily accessible. Frequent bus service to Walhamstow for the tube.

I heard that this site is closing soon.

I heard that this site is closing soon.
It's had an extension although there's planning permission to build new flats on it.
Updated 03 January 2023* Following further discussions between the London Borough of Bromley Council and the Club, we are pleased to announce that the Council has agreed to grant a longer lease which will potentially enable us to keep the site open for bookings until late 2024 with pitches available 13 months ahead

It’s a bit like Baltic Wharf, been closing for a couple of years now but mired in planning delays. It’s a great site, the single reason I remain a member of CMHC.

C&CC Chertsey is a long walk to the rail station but the site itself is close to a couple of pubs. Chertsey rail is also a dlpw stopping service or you could change trains but still likely to be 50 minutes to Waterloo. If you were going for taxi (Ubers work well in this area) then I'd perhaps go to Weybridge for a much faster service 30-40 mins depending on train, but careful timing on roads as traffic can be very heavy into Weybridge.

Could also look at C&CC Walton with train from Hersham again a longish walk, or C&CC Horsley with train Effingham Junction.

Henlow Bridge Lakes just off the A1
50 mins to St. Pancreas from Arseley station right outside.

A taxi to Staines station from either of Chertsey's campsites is probably the quickest way into Waterloo, it shouldn't take much more then 40 minutes on the train, another alternative is a taxi to hatton cross tube station which is on the picadilly line but that is a little further so more expensive. As a slight aside note, there is a very old pub called The Green Man a short walk from Hatton Cross tube station, it is directly in line with the southern runway so when aircraft are landing east to west you can sit outside and watch the aircraft flying over at less than 100 foot, it's quite interesting if you like planes.

I cannot add to the ULEZ aspect but the site is a gem and the wardens are very helpful. There is a very rural feel despite being in the town and some good ruins (Lesnes Abbey?) nearby. When 2 of our sons lived in Greenwich we were there quite a lot and really liked it. The site takes tents too so some family permutations could camp as well. The proximity of the new(ish) Crossrail station is another plus. David

Lee Valley Edmonton we where there last week, looks a bit unkempt but ok. Around £30 a night, buses run from the sports centre that you drive past to get to the site. We got the bus into Edmonton where the train goes to Liverpool street, the walk back took us around 30 mins, we also walked up the road to Ponders End station to go to Stratford Westfield shopping, change at Hackney Downs for Hackney Central theirs an elevated walkway between them which makes it simple.
Touch and go on our credit cards for all the trains no need to buy any tickets, touch to go, touch again when you arrive, brilliant system.
