Anyone been, what’s it like and town…?

Thanks..🍻

Been to the town on a cruise and thought the old town was lovely, picturesque but quite a steep climb and cobbles if I remember, possibly steps. I was able bodied then. We bought a mug with a spoon in the handle for a good friend (so she could giggle at the town name) and also had a drink in a cafe - very reasonable prices but it's been a while.

Oh and one of the places I would go back to for a longer visit. Cruises give you samples of places!!

Peniscola is a pleasant enough town. Puddleduck -flat as I recall! Nice little castle on the peninsula. Nice beach. We stayed in Camping Los Pinos which was slightly inland but cheap and pleasant. Eden is nearer the sea front - still a bit of a walk to the town centre. I recall Eden being quite cramped and car park like. I might be wrong though.

It was the walk up to the castle I remember as being steep with cobbles and possibly steps. There was a waterway on the way from the cruise ship to the castle with huge carp.

Went there a few years ago. The site is a short walk to the beach/promenade and old town which was quite nice, but as said, on a small climb. The site was flat with moderate sized pitches. At the time our van was over 3m high and I recall a load of people coming to watch me negotiate the tree cover! No problems tho.
A pleasant enough site.

We didn’t make Peniscola this year but our friends stayed here, last year we stayed at El Cid.

We spent a week there when we were first married in the early 90’s,and loved it.
We revisited last year in the motorhome, and was disappointed. The castle is still impressive, it was used in the film El Cid, but the town wasn’t as nice as we remembered. Worth a one night visit imo.

Also more recently featured in Game of Thrones. 😉

We stayed in both los pinos and eden (2022), eden is close to the seafront and a walk along to get to town, los pinos is further inland and a bit of a trek into town, and the route we took was through a wetland area with a fairly rough paths, which would have been ok, if Jane hadn't been in a wheelchair at the time. we got a taxi back after an evening meal, to discover the gates closed and I had forgotten the tab for the gate, so I had to shimmy over the wall and go and get it from the camper to let jane in.

But liked both campsites in different ways, los pinos was a bit basic but pleasant enough, eden was more comercial but reasonable size plots, they also had ethernet to each plot, and lent/rent you your own wifi router, so internet was very good.

We stayed there because I wanted to see the castle, and it didn't disappoint! The site was full when we were there, and we had to wait a day to get a pitch.

The old town has some really nice bars and places to eat. Some do special platters of Iberico meats which are very tasty and include cheese, bread and pulped tomatoes to go with it.
The streets are cobbled and steep. Some have ramps inbetween the steps. It's worth it if you can get up there.

We’ve stayed a couple of times in Benicarlo and walked or cycled into Peniscola. We like both, but prefer Benicarlo for its more traditional Spanish town atmosphere and it’s an all year round fully open place. Peniscola is more summer holiday I think, with a great beach and a more touristy vibe. It’s all flat apart from the castle which from memory is steep and cobbled. We had friends stay at Eden and they said it was ok.

I'd describe the castle 'old town' as having a small slope - not particularly steep or a climb.

We thought it was very pretty. Camping Eden was nice, plots were tight for bigger vans as the long stay folk tended to have their awnings right up to edge of plots and then have water bottles all along the edges. First time I’d seen it so stuck in my mind. The restaurant was nice, only got in the first night though as it was closed for wedding type events the next two.

Been there 7 times last Jan for 8wks, I know people are thinking why!!! But peniscola has a micro climate its weather is very similar to a lot further south. Campsite for us is just great but has a lot of German snowbirds and is always full (I rebooked in feb for 2025 and it was already full) however there is a car park at the rear that people use and also 2 aires just round the corner. The walk up to the castle is quite steep and you will struggle abit with your wheelchair but if you take they dockside it is easier

We stopped at the camper park in town. Just off the prom and nice stroll to old town. Nice place and you can sit out.

We went in winter and the place was dead, nothing open except in old town.

Camping Las Brisas aire €9.50pn or a splash & dash back in May or a FLT park up next door. 0.5M to beach, 0.75M to old town and El Cid's castle which is worth a visit. The aire has a tower for washing your roof.

We were at the Eden during lovely weather, last April and ended up staying for a week. The town is attractive and interesting, but a steep climb on cobbles. There are also lots of very good and reasonably-priced restaurants both in the old town and along the prom.
Previously, we'd spent the odd night at the Eden and thought it was OK, but nothing more, but this time we had a nice big pitch on the left hand side of the campsite and we much preferred it to where we'd stayed previously on the right hand side. Showers and toilets are also very good.
We'd definitely stay again in good weather and on a left hand side pitch. Otherwise, I'm not so sure.

Walked around Camping Eden last year. Found it very cramped, didn't like it at all but everyone is different.

We have stayed there. It was fine but there was some sort of ditch or waterway behind the fence next to our pitch so there were a few mosquitos! Interestingly they issue with you own WiFi router which plugs into a network socket on the pitch. Note that these have a Euro style mains plug so unless you have a Euro style socket in your van you will need a Euro to UK adapter - the opposite to what Brits normally carry.

Not car park like..Nice clean site with washing up sink on each pitch..Nice restaurant. BUSBY.

Stopped there for a few nights some years back and thought we were going to be burnt out. The field behind caught fire and flames were coming over the top of the vans at the back. We pulled out quickly, there were a few vans at the back end burnt a bit. Other than that it was ok.

Stayed at Camping Eden in 2023. Flat access to beach. We had a huge pitch on the left side of the site. There are 2 parts. We thought the right side had smaller pitches. They will also loan you a router for WiFi with a refundable deposit. Excellent signal. Washing machines by reception.

We've also stayed in El Cid which is nice and near Aldi but as I cannot walk far and use a mobility scooter we moved to Camping Eden so I could look round Peniscola. We used the ACSI discount at both.

Does anyone know if the beach is dog friendly.
Thinking of a few days there or Benicarlo next week before the journey home.

Thanks Andy
