Evening,

Does anyone use either of these? I've set us up with both but I'm not finding them too intuitive to use. The former, in some cases, seem too good to be true, ie. free to stay when a site has a tariff of charges.

Are there any idiots guides to use anywhere?

Thanks
Sean

ACSI sites are never free - charges range from 13-27€ a night incl EHU , but only off season.
FP don’t charge - but don’t expect any facilities, you’re just parking in a farm, vineyard, etc. And there is generally a hope/expectation that you’ll buy something, not a requirement.

You don't say if this is your first visit, or if you are used to staying on sites.
If it is your first visit then France passion is excellent for finding the real France for free but be aware they are very rarely where you exactly want to be and sometimes can be expensive if you buy the stuff they sell but saying that there is never any pressure to buy anything and most are very friendly and glad to see you.
Although I have been dead against these things you would be better joining campingcarpark they are now almost everywhere and at the moment reasonable prices.
Also although it's rarely completely up-to-date you could do worse than invest in the alltheaires book, for the normal Aires and you will only have to buy it once , even a second hand one will be fine as they don't change much.
Now and this is the important one the one thing you need is the park4night app which pretty much includes all of them.

There are still plenty of Municipal sponsored free aires all over France. Service points have been updated on many, so you can expect to pay for your water, black and grey, but the actual parking spot is often free.

With judicious choosing, you can park in really nice locations for nowt. ✔️

It'll be my first mobile visit to France in 10 years. Last time was in a Transporter/Caravelle and comprised one Aire near Caen and five campsites between the Auvergne region and the south of France.

This time is an XLWB Transit and pretty much holding to Brittany for 8 days from Cherbourg with maybe a dip down to Île de Ré and returning via Poitiers, Le Mans & Caen.

I don't mind doing campsites every night but I'd like a bit more variety if possible.
