Camping Car Parks avoid getting ripped off

I have seen cyclists with tents on aires when holidays in france and thought that was the original use for them

For a 5 hour stop and using the facilities that's very reasonable compared to the UK

But you can pull up at most aires and use the bourne, even those on filling stations without pitches. The grey and cassette dump is usually free and fresh water about €2 for 10 mins.

You do not have to stay the night on that aire.

Last week we stayed at the CCP in Bouloire in the Sarthe region for three nights. It was splendid. Across the road from a supermarket and outdoor laundry, dog walk next door and a very pretty town to wander around. What made it very special for us was the the local Mairie (mayor) came to visit to ask if everything was ok for us and were we happy with the site. That made us realise that the local town is responsible for the upkeep of the site. The few we have stayed on have been very good and value for money. The 5.50 euros is for coming in for services and a rest for up to 5 hours. Otherwise they seem to be between 9 - 13 euros depending on position and season.

never had to most people do there shopping before they arrive
& the FLT'S park around the corner to empty there cassettes & steal water
I've noticed the bornes in one or two places need you to swipe your card before you can use the water. An anti-FLT measure, I guess!

just had this emailed us
The Camping de mon Village sites are fairly new. They are the ex-Municipal sites I think which allow tents and caravans during the high season when they also have the toilet blocks open.

Thanks, I count 2018 as recent history and therefore "new". It must be an age thing! :)

A couple of things...

1. I don't get this 5 hour thing. As far as I knew you get 24 hours from the time you enter. If you leave after 8 minutes then tough.

2. I wasn't aware that any had toilet facilities. I thought it was electric, water, waste and wifi. Or by sanitary do you mean chemical toilet empty point?

They do vary a bit in the way they are maintained but they are maintained by local operators not centrally.

We have had a few issues like when we couldn't get out due to a malfunctioning gate. Or we had credit but it didn't recognise it. Or when we were told we could leave during our stay to drive out for a meal but then it charged us twice. But on all occasions we have found thier customer services on the phone excellent and always sorted out refunds etc.
Some have toilet and shower blocks. BUSBY.

So one is paying for other people to use the toilet and shower blocks which we do not need.

Same old story about users pay, but non-users should not.
Your don’t have to use them , besides the CCP camping mon sites are usually around the same price per 24 hours as the normal CCP aires give or take

Agree they are value for money and good if in a new area, you know what you will get.
Only one I would not return to is Le Crotoy as it is about a mile and a half out of town and there is no pavement/path into town while the roads are busy. It is cleaner and tidier than being on the beach but the walk rules it out for us.
Yes we used this one last year. Not nice when walking the dogs. However we took the side road nearby and then a track to the main road. Crossed and then had a safe walk into town.

these are the same price sites as the standard sites they have . its only because they have taken over the municipal sites which have showers & toilets so no you don't pay for someone else & NOT to be confused with big commercial sites OR sites in rip off uk

We stayed in a camping mon village last week, it was a small old municipal campsite.

The showers and toilets and dishwashing facilities looked to only be open during the high season. It seemed as if during high season other units (tents and caravans) could also use the site and there was set up for a site warden .

It was a reduced rate at this time of year for the motorhomers.

Just to let people know if you drive into a Camping Carpark and immdediately leave you are still charged for minimum 5 hour rate.

We went to stay at the CCP at Souppes-Sure-Loing https://www.campingcarpark.com/en_GB/reviews/souppes-sur-loing and the pitches were all over grown, rutted and some filled with water.

There was hand written signs saying to park on the path and the sanitary facilities were not opened, there was only one battered old transit van parked up so we left And went elsewhere.

After speaking with Customer customer support they would not refund the euro 5.50 for the 8 minutes we stayed on the site and did not use any facilities so left a sour tast after trying to use CCP for the first time.
Those Euros convert to £4.59p from what’s being written I would pay that to dump water fill and empty the black waste. Also 5 hours stop over that gives people time to look at the local town have a sandwich and a cuppa along with a quick nap 😴 before continuing on a Journey doesn’t sound a rip off to me.

Simple answer, don’t like it don’t go. Why should a company, any company, change a successful commercial operating system just because you don’t like it?

Because some companies/organisations only charge the users of facilities not charge everyone, and comments pointing this out may persuade other companies to adopt that model.

What it’s always saying on here how wonderful france is and the Uk a rip off
But France is a wonderful place and the UK is a rip off and getting worse imho 😂

I have used a number of the CCP Aires and to be fair most have been spot on ( apart from the free WiFi that never seems to work for me 😀) That said some of the sites are not so good in the winter as I think maintenance virtually stops out of season .

We stayed in some brilliant ones with Theonlysue from ones in the pyrenees to the south of France. One had a free washing machine and showers and toilets. We found WiFi works at the gate or near to it. I like them especially as you can see how many spaces they have.

you shouldn't say that there is a ( N-- ) on here that will say you are NOT patriotic

Highly unlikely. Charging less for non-use of facilities which are already there can only reduce the profit margin. Why would they do that?

Because some companies/organisations operate that way and are still in business,

Maybe they set the charges for those using the facilities at a level that covers those facilities, so no loss of profit. Had you thought of that?

We use CCP quite a bit as SWMBO considers them as good as a site. Very few have toilets and showers and those few are usually only functional at peak periods. We never use them but prices seem much the same whether there are toilets or not.
