Camping Car Parks avoid getting ripped off

We've used quite a few CCP Aires and found all but one to be excellent. You can talk to customer services in English from the entry bollard and they are most helpful.

I think there’s a lot of MH users who struggle to get away from the concept that Aires are and should be free. Unfortunately times change, even in France and more and more communes are realizing that a baguette and a couple of croissants don’t give an adequate return on running an aire. A particular member on here decries ‘big business’ taking over Aires, but personally I think CCP do an excellent job and provide relativly consistent high standards and more importantly value for money. There will always be LennyHBs😁, but I find it difficult to understand those who think they are expensive. As for EHU, I’ve got a couple of 80amp gels, but that’s it, and I’d sooner pay a couple of bob extra for EHU and relax rather than make expensive and major changes to my MH.
But as always, each to his own

Can you get the card at the aire? I have 20€ on my account but lost the card or do I have to re-order it from CCP

Fully agree. Economic necessity and poor behaviour on the street is driving change. We're CCP users and find them good especially the reserve a pitch ahead feature. VFM? Definitely. Although not an exact comparison, next week we will be paying over £30 for a ferry pitch at CAMC Black Horse Farm but we would rather pay that than parking on street in Dover.

We have used 10 camping car park aires in the last month, and are pleased with the standard, location and price. Using the app we could see live availability, useful for Pont Du Gard, which filled up quickly each day.....I think the title of "ripped off" is misleading

This is in their FAQs.
I have 2 solutions to get a new card:

  • On the area of my choice: I contact the customer service* who will deliver me a new card (5 €) via the payment machine
  • At home: I contact the customer service* by email or phone and confirm my postal address. I receive my new card by post (10 € for the card and delivery costs)
Thus, my customer account and my credit are kept, the old card is blocked for security.

yes like a few on here they base there negative opinions on just 1 or 2 Aires . this one had showers & a free washing machine in a lovely village https://www.campingcarpark.com/en_G...pes-cote-dazur/83-var/st-julien-le-montagnier
our count up to now is about 40 of them

I think you have got me wrong I don't mind paying for Aires if they are where I want to be but I don't think the CCP ones are very good value.

Some of the photos posted on here of them are nothing like the ones I have been on or seen. A lot of them are just car parks, expensive car parks.
I've been on ones that are just car parks others that are just grass with the grass a foot high, the WiFi is always very iffy.

I don't like paying for things I don't need it would be much better if they charged €5/€6 a night and you paid extra for EHU & water. I don't need or want EHU and I only need water every 5 or 6 days, quite happy to pay when I need it.

I have been using CCP since they began.
You buy a card for €5. Load card for minimum of 1 night, show card to barrier and enter, stay 3 nights ? then you pay for 2 nights or more in machine. Show card at barrier and away. From now on you can enter with zero as you pay on departure. The app. will tell you arrival time and cost so far. The period is any 24 hours.
Now the price, you can park for up to 5 hours and explore vicinity, get fresh water at the borne by showing your card (no extra charge) or stay up to 24 hours for double. Look at the typical prices, rip off?? More like an absolute bargain !

As did we believe it or not
It was the only pitch where I could get the satellite to lock on
After trying two others
SWMBO has to have her Corrie and Emmerdale fix :giggle::giggle:
When we arrived there was only one other MH there and of all the pitches only two have a view of the river so we parked next to them, the pitches are very large but within 30 minutes they packed up and went.

We recently stayed at 4 different Camping Car Park sites, in the South West of France, our first experience of using them. We paid between 8 Euros and the most expensive @13 Euros to stay. This last one included a 20% discount at the local golf course ,a discount of 18.5 Euros, (which we made use of) which made this particular stop very cheap. We found each of the sites very good, clean and tidy, with decent pitches.
We will certainly be using the company again when next visiting France.
If memory serves me correctly, I think there is facility just to use their services, electric, disposal facilities, bins etc for a minimal time for which they charge an entrance fee around 5.5 Euros. This may be why the OP was charged a fee...
For a 5 hour stop and using the facilities that's very reasonable compared to the UK

It’s very strange how the mind works, well mine anyway !
We have stayed at a few Camping car park aires and they’ve usually been of a reasonable standard for 10-12€ a night.
But France has an abundance of good Aires for less money or free, so Camping car park begins to look expensive.
Now if the UK had its own Camping car park Aires at £10 a night instead of an abundance of expensive camp sites I would think them a bargain ( and tour more in Britain).
And yes I do applaud CAMpRA / Moho Fun and their efforts but there is a long way to go.
Oh yes, I am sympathetic with the OP but maybe they should have had a quick look at the Aire before committing.

I would think that one can have an abundance of anything if someone is going to pay for it, but as seen on here everything is a rip off and should be free.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. A lot are saying what great value they are but they are comparing them with English prices.
But they are not in England they are in France and compared to what else is on offer in France they are expensive.

We seem to have been lucky as we have enjoyed all the CCP we have stayed at. Yes some are better than others, we have also been to Souppes sur Loing but it was fine when we went.

Not for what I get. If I had a choice of free parking only, or paying for water, EHU, WiFi etc., it would be full service every time. A full lithium installation in my Hymer would pay for an awful lot of EHUs.

Just a quick question ref entering and leaving. If you scan your card on entry, then leave after an hour or so to go shopping/site seeing etc in the mh and pay € 5, how do you get back in the same day and pay for the 24 hours for say € 10?

never had to most people do there shopping before they arrive
& the FLT'S park around the corner to empty there cassettes & steal water

Used a few of these sites. Early in the season they have ehu and water turned on where many others don’t. Terms do state a minimum of 5 hour charge if entering. Same if you have a scooter or similar if you open the barrier to go in and out….you may be charged. If you intend to do that you need to phone and explain. They seem fairly good value to me if you need a stopover and use ehu, water fill up, dispose of waste water, empty cassette and use bins etc.

You can enter and leave as many times as you want. I guess if you left after an hour it would charge you the 5 hour short stay rate but you could return later, stay overnight, then leave in the morning. If you then checked your account you would find you the total charge would be the 24 hour rate.

This is their FAQ page and this is explained in the answer to the question how the card works, which is the third question on the page.

Some are ex municipal campsites and retain the original campsite facilities.
That is what this site was and looks like it has no maintenance at all this year, the different dates for municipal and getting ready for the season makes sense.

Lesson learned walk around first, although I could have only emptied waste water not used the water or electrics in that time as you needed to swipe the keycard on the bourne anyway.

You keep the credit but need to pay a few euros for another card. Know from experience, says someone who just found his first card this week.

Agree they are value for money and good if in a new area, you know what you will get.
Only one I would not return to is Le Crotoy as it is about a mile and a half out of town and there is no pavement/path into town while the roads are busy. It is cleaner and tidier than being on the beach but the walk rules it out for us.

Some even allow tent camping.

We’ve done lots of these both for top up stops and overnights. Vast majority have been very good. The odd one, a bit “car parkish” but ok. Only had trouble once when we drove in to Saumer (the barrier was broken) Then we couldn’t get out after they had fixed the barrier as we had “never been in”. Sorted with a phone call.

I always thought that the original Aires was for tents for the French traveling across france
