We have been CAMC members for years. We now mainly like CLs. Main Club sites have too many facilities we don’t use but obviously have to pay for, so expensive for us.
We appreciate the minimum facilities of many CLs and small size.
We are currently reviewing how we camp and whether we want to do more off grid camping.
It seems that the CCC have more off grid pitches, many of their club sites seem to have hardstanding non electric pitches. Is that correct? I’m just getting the info by browsing their site.
Their CS sites obviously have more units than CLs. As I understand 5 vans and 10 tents. Does that get abused, do they feel crowded?
We would probably keep our CAMC membership as well and I know one answer is to join, go to a few sites and find out, but a few thoughts from funsters would help as well.

C&CC have an excellent app called Out&About which shows all the Temporary Holiday Sites and District Association weekend meets. Prices are from about £8 to £15 a night depending on facilities and location.

It's surprisingly easy to search by date and location.

Rare that the hardstandings don't have EHU. Most of the non EHU pitches will be grass, look at the site descriptions though as grass may often need some levelling.

The few CS that I have used with mix of tent and caravan/motorhome pitches have been quite spacious. Quality of any facilities is variable from little more than a tap and elsan, to some having a full shower and laundry. But as a single which gets a discount on C&CC sites, those can still be more cost effective than the CS. THS can be good, and often in useful locations (think of it as a rally site with nothing more than water, elsan and rubbish), but some will be popular in main holiday times, so don't always expect to just turn up.

THS can vary tremendously, we've stayed in plain open fields with just water and sewage disposal to one of our regular stops, Porth Beach Holiday Park in Cornwall, literally over the road from the beach. The one they have in common is excellent value for money. Not sure how you'd calculate it, but I would have though like for like a years membership and use of C&CC would be substantially cheaper than CAMC. Theres a lot more to it than the membership fee

Stayed at a few. Most have non electric pitches though hardstanding seem to be always with ehu. Pitching is generally more spacious and less regimented than cmc. No idea about the bogs and showers as never use them.

We are still new to all this and did not really know what to expect from joining. Our really helpful neighbours offered to join us up and gives us the free the gift. So we joined and really glad we did.
We too use THS and DA meets find them to be great value for money and locations within in easy reach of placers to go.
We don't feel packed in and no room even when the site is popular location. Unlike some sites we've used than have packed in pitchers.
Facilities can range from the basic to access to toilets and showers depending facilities already at the location.
The out and about app and webpage are easy to use and DA's also have lists of sites and some even have online payment and booking.
Can't comment on the club sites we don't use them. As for CS ones we've used have been fine with toilets and showers ranging from basic and clean to totally spotless We also like the more quirky CS
i'd say join and give them a go not ever one will be spot on but many are more then value for money.

We've been with CCC for more years than I care to remember! Mainly use the THSs and rallies.

We joined CAMC for a year but didn't lime that we needed to book for weekend meets so didn't bother after the first year.

Many thanks for your various answers.

We're not new to the C&CC but only recently trying to find Meets and THS for sociable camping and value for money.
There seems to be a bewildering number of Regions, DAs, Special Sections etc. Is there a list of them in one place on the CCC website? If so, I've failed to find it. Some of these sub-sections have their own webpage but not all, it seems.
I've got the Out and About app, how often is that updated, does anyone know?

The Out and About app is the best place to find stuff.

If it doesn’t refresh each time you open it, try logging out and back in again.

As a member you can request a printed version of Out & About to come with your monthly magazine.

Never managed to get non EHU hardstanding pitch in CCC sites.
Non EHU pitchs are on grass which most sites tend to not use in late autumn/winter/early spring to protect grass so in effect making it a EHU only site.

That only seemed to give details of those DAs that have their own website? Or maybe they all do these days.
There are also special sections eg BCC which I found by chance.
I'm basically looking for the easiest way to find these meets. Looks like it's the App.

We used that list and went on a few DA sites to see what was what. Some DA sites are very basic and pretty poor. Some DA's have site list you can download which may help you.
Some really have got a grip and have sites to match. One we use a lot is Leeds they even have online booking and quick to repay if you have to cancel. They have a calendar plug in too which is handy.
Out and about is best way to see what's around and is updated often. Make sure you keep and eye on the app updates. That often inc site list update too. We've found the site list on club out and about site easy to use as well.
You're right sections are a thing you just end up finding. Like the others the websites are hit and miss.
You can also do what we do once you've found DA's and sites you like it's worth checking the DA's website from time to time.

Trouble with that version is that it is out of date the day after it is printed.

but as most THS and DA's are advertised weeks, if not months, in advance, does it really matter??

We dropped the old caravan club CAMC ,a few years a go, & use C&cc mostly for THS's & weekend meets with District assocation's ,
three very good THS's ones in Cornwall , as mentioned previously Porth beach THS , also Churchtown Farm THS Gwithian , & Bude Ths in July ,on the rugby field (no ehu ) but fab walks a long the canal , to the beach or town all with in reasonably level walking .
Couple of nice THS's in Bradford on avon , right next too the canals , the Beehive field also Brass knocker basin no ehu but level fields.

Yes because some are cancelled!

Very few DA's & AGM's and less than 2% of THS (These mostly at the start & end of season)
Those were the numbers when I was involved with the Club before Covid and I don't suppose they have changed much.

If we want to go away with a DA or THS we check the website to make sure it's still running. Can always phone the contact if you want to be absolutely certain it's going ahead.
